Using Moto Razr V3 as a bluetooth modem

I know this has been done to death, but I've followed all the instructions I've found in various places here and not gotten a solution. I use Cingular as my carrier. I have the unlimited data plan with them. I can easily tether to my notebook and use it, but every time I have tried to tether to the Axim with bluetooth I get bad results. It dials, and immediately disconnects after dialing.

I've called Cingular, they say I need a $60 special plan or they can't support it, so no help there.

I am using the OEM bluetooth stack, if that makes any difference....never had a reason to go to the Widcomm.

Any and all suggestions appreciated.

With T-Mobile I have just had to put in the proxy settings and that did the job for me. If you are getting in with the lap top you should be able to get in with the PDA.

Here are the directions I found to work with my Cingular Razr and X51V:

BT Modem

1. Turn Bluetooth on.

2. Go to Start - Settings - Connections.

3. Tap on "Add a new modem connection."

4. Choose a name for this connection.

5. Under "Select a modem", use the drop-down menu to select "Bluetooth Dialup Modem".

6. Click next.

7. Enter the number you wish to dial; for GPRS, the number is almost always *99#

8. Click next.

9. User name: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM, Password: CINGULAR1, Domain: (leave blank)

10. Tap on the "Advanced" Tab.

11. Change baud rate to "57600".

12. Uncheck "wait for dial tone before dialing."

13. IMPORTANT. Input your networks extra dial-string commands. +CGDCONT=1, "IP", "WAP.CINGULAR"

14. Click OK in the top right hand corner.

15. Click "Finish".

I looked at all the posts and distilled them down to this. I don't have any special data plan and it worked for me. Hope this helps!

Information overload! There is so much good information here that it is difficult to ferret out the one tiny bit that you need. I made that list for me after picking parts of several posts. I saved it as a note in Outlook so I always have it.

I've changed phones and I don't have a problem. My v3x RZR was very inconsistent and I think I connected twice with ax to internet. I changed to a Nokia first time. Iwould presevere with the moto but call your provider and run through the setup.

This is a similar set up with T-Mobile. Less expensive. They want $40 for the high speed system. But it is only $4 for dialup via BT. They do not tell you how to set up the phone with this however. They just tell you it is for enhanced T-Zones (Razr mobile wap browser). When you ask about BT to PDA, they quote the $40 deal. Google and this site are the answer to many of lifes nagging questions.

I had the razar v3, I dumped it. I tried to connect it to my axim via bt but no luck. I played for about 4 months. Until I took out my sony ericsson 610. Now I used this phone abroad, four wasn't good for me here. Now I was able to connect my pda w/ the sony ericsson 610.

Now i've upgraded to SE w810i, I purchased the 19.99 unlimited data plan from cingular, and I conneced my phone to pda, I can get online where ever, whenever.

I was wondering if they know about my setup, but for now ,.don't ask don't tell.

But I tell you its a blast. Comes in very handy,.. But in going to have to question if I really need it...

Just going to enjoy for now...

For T-Mobile you need the $4 T-Zones service and then....

Setting up the connection
On the PDA, tap on the Bluetooth icon in the lower right corner. Tap on Turn Bluetooth ON.
Tap on the Bluetooth icon again, and tap on Bluetooth Manager.
Tap on New, and then tap on Connect.
Tap to select Connect to the Internet.
Tap on Next.
Tick to select Connect via a dial-up devicesuch as a cellular phone or a shared modem connected to a computer .
Tap on Next.
Tap on .
Once the handset is found, tap on the icon representing the handset.
Type T-Mobile GPRS for the Connection name .
Tap on Finish.
For the connection to use, tap on New Connection, and then tap on ok in the upper corner.
Type T-Mobile GPRS for the Connection Name .
Type *99# for the Phone number, and then tap on ok.
On the handset, you will be prompted to Bond with the PDA, press the YES button to continue.
Enter a Bluetooth Passkey (1234 for example) and press the ok button.
On the PDA, type in the same Passkey as you entered on the handset and then tap on OK.
Tap on Cancel.
Tap on Start, Settings and then tap on the Connections tab.
Tap on the Connections icon.
Tap on the Advanced tab.
Tap on Select Networks.
From the top drop down menu, tap to select Bluetooth Work Settings .
Tap on ok.
Tap on the Tasks tab.
Tap on Manage existing connections under Bluetooth Settings.
Tap to select T-Mobile GPRS and then tap on the Edit button.
Tap Next twice and then tap on the Advanced button.
In the Extra dial-string modem commands field, type +cgdcont=1,,"wap.voicestream.com".
Tap on ok and then tap on Finish.
Setup your Proxy by clicking the proxy tab in Bluetooth Work Settings
Thit the Advanced button
proxy 216.155.165.50
port 8080
Set each type to these settings
Click ok four times and you are out
Making the connection
On the PDA, return to the Bluetooth Manager.
Tap and hold on T-Mobile GPRS.
Tap to select Connect.
Tap to select T-Mobile GPRS and tap ok .
Ensure the User name, Password and Domain fields are left blank.
Tap on OK.

I think the source of these directions was from a site called MotoModers. It may have come from this site. I do not recall.

This has been very useful information. I was planning on getting a CF modem for my X51v but because I need to renew our cell phone contracts I'll just be sure to get a new phone with Bluetooth. 'Any suggestions for phones and in particular with Verizon will be greatly appreciated. They're really the only game in town in northern Vermont. Thanks in advance.

I like the Razr because it is thin, cheap, triband, and bluetooth. I have had no problems pairing it with my PDA and PC. I use it on the train etc. I do not need a music player or a camera. It will do both (poorly). I have a very good digital camera and the Axim plays music. I like having everything separate.
