Aximsitex50icon When the x51v Dies - What Next?

Man, I love my x51v and I'm making sure I don't drop it again anytime soon. Man, I do NOT want to go back to a 2x2 screen with limited memory and one expansion slot. but what is out there or soon to be out there that is a move up from the x51v?

Well if you have any warrenty left, then upgrade and exend it to 2010, that will give you 3 years to find something else.

There are only two devices which I'd consider an upgrade from the X51v:

-O2 XDA Flame
-Sharp EM ONE

The former has VGA, the latter WVGA(800x480)! Both have PXA270s(though only at 520 MHz, but that's where XCPUScalar comes in to jack it back up to 624 or beyond), 128 MB of RAM(my X50v could really use that PPCTechs upgrade...), and the best part-the new nVIDIA GoForce 5500 graphics and sound processor(Intel 2700G, eat your heart out!)! Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are present in both; the XDA Flame has tri-band GSM(no 850 MHz-not good for Americans like myself)and HSDPA, whereas I think the EM ONE only has HSDPA(no voice capability).

Unfortunately, the EM ONE costs around 800 US$(and this is for a device without an English ROM, mind you), and the XDA Flame even worse at 1100 US$.

Until there's a device that can match or beat the X50v and X51v in performance and price, Dell's discontinued offerings will still enjoy continued support from a dedicated fanbase.

When the time comes, I hope the Vaio UX series will be affordable...

in the meantime, I compromised and got a motorola Q, which will leave my Axim at home most of the time since it can do 90% of what I want and all of what I *need*. The Axim basically is a multimedia toy for me, so I'm just as well off with a smartphone (and I like QWERTY keyboards for input, I acctually prefered my BB to my axim for typing input...

Though, PDA-wise, if I cant get a UMPC by then, I'll probably look to HP (if it's not dead too, rumor has it the iPAQ is ont he chopping block) if all else fails, I'll get soemthing like the PPC6800 phone and call it a day untill the UMPC becomes affordable...
