Exactly! My thoughts are the same as yours. If they can not be up front with us as to not selling/making the Axims any more why would they issue an update to the OS?
I'm not gonna hold my breath for it and it probably will not be done, but it is a possibility - they have at least 3 yrs of warranty contracts to honor. If a lot of people, esp business ask for it, it may come.

Dell could make a lot of money by selling a WM6 upgrade at a premium to people like us. Perhaps as much as $60. Just my 2˘.

but they could lose a lot of money on the support costs... And the capital could be invested better elsewhere

Just to play honestly they could release unsupported WM6, Microsoft already sent them WM6 licenses for every X51

I like many people am hoping for WM5se around september, WM6 is a hoax! Why would you want an untried OS for your PPC? It would be like upgrading to Vista from fully functional and upgraded XP

It also a possibility that I win a million dollars but probably will not happen. 3 years of warranty doesn't include providing a WM6 upgrade. Not a lot of people are expecting a WM6 for the X51 (hoping yes, expecting no) not even business sectors. Businesses buy these devices usually for a specialty (single) purpose (eg. digital sig. for invoices) and if it's working their IT dept. couldn't care less about upgrading.

This pretty much sums it up. There's no better way of putting it than what andy just said.

WM6 is what we thought was going to be called WM5se, it uses the main parts of the WinCE5 core with some updates and not the WinCE6 core as would be expected from the WM6 name. Marketting people are fundamentally stupid at times.

ooo come on why the hell should x51v be the only Axim to get the WM6 upgrade it just not right. I love my x50v and when I upgraded to Wm5 i was hoping for the best until it gave me problems. Dell should freakin give upgrades to all of the x50 and 51's. I feel that we should do another petition regarding us Axim users that we deserve another upgrade. We all know that WM5 blows from all of us that have used it

The only reason the x50 doesn't upgrade well is because there is a hardware block. WM5 devices use memory differently then your x50 was designed for. WM6 possibly wouldn't run any better.

But WM6 is a simple upgrade for WM5 built PPC's. WM6 is basically just a second edition of WM5. I doubt there are any ground breaking technologies that will disrupt an upgrade to WM6 on the x51v.

I've seen companies provide support-less upgrades to new mobile OS's. Drivers especially comes to mind on the PC platform.

I don't get it. Dell has no incentive whatsoever to upgrade the Axim since they have left the PDA market.

DELL may have a contractual agreement to support Axim x51s through WM6 when it sells them to corporate customers. Just a thought.
