DELL may have a contractual agreement to support Axim x51s through WM6 when it sells them to corporate customers. Just a thought.
Of course, that assumes that WM6 was in the contract... and of course, that the support contracts for handhelds are the same as those for desktops, which is a faulty assumption - as others have noted, it's a LOT easier to upgrade a desktop machine (since the hardware's pretty standard) than a Windows Mobile device due to the lack of really 'standard' components and designs. Plus, of course, Dell or HTC would have to write most of the drivers for the ROM image, whereas with a desktop or laptop PC Dell can depend on someone else to do the drivers for the video, sound, etc.
I don't get it. Dell has no incentive whatsoever to upgrade the Axim since they have left the PDA market.
Well, of course I don't know if there will be a WM6 upgrade for X51v, but that of "they don't sell the X51v anymore" is not a good reason to think it will not be. I owned a Toshiba e800 before my Dell X51v, and for your info, Toshiba released a WM2003SE upgrade for free to all the owners of an E800 with WM2003, and they did that after the E800 had been discontinued and even after it was said that Toshiba left out the PDA market.
That seems to me a good reason not to be so pessimist.

You're missing the big picture. First of all, Dell offered WM5 for the X50 for a price (not free like Toshiba-according to your post), the only way they are going to offer WM6 is that if they are going to profit from it, which is not the case when referring to their experience they had with WM5 on the X50. Just like Toshiba, Dell released an A02 upgrade for WM5 X50's (albeit X50 discontinued), but because they sold WM5 CD's and x50 pdas with WM5, it is just proper that they do it. Secondly, the e800 was discontinued but they were still selling the e830. Their pda department was alive and kicking. The Axim line "is" totally dead, no X52s. That's the big difference.
Is WM5 all that bad that you consider those satisfied with it and not expecting WM6 to be pessimists? How about "realist"? Dell is not obligated to give us WM6 for the X51 and they are ceratainly not going to specially without profit.

Not really, when that upgrade was released by Toshiba they were not selling the e830 yet, it started to be rumored a time after that, but by that time it was a commonly accepted fact that Toshiba was leaving the PDA market, so the e830 was a surprise. Can we be sure that Dell is not working on the shadows?

No, no... don't get me wrong. I'm not saying nothing about if WM5 is bad and WM6 is or not needed. When I speak of being optimist or pessimist what I mean is for the fact itself that Dell release an upgrade when the product has been discontinued, that is a good thing, is not?

Rumors will be rumors. The fact that there was an e830, even if it surprised everyone, means that their pda department hasn't shut down. On the other hand, there is an official blog by Lionel Menchaca, Digital Media Manager of Direct2Dell that the Aximline is indeed caput. Is Dell working on the shadows? There is a rumor that they are, but not for a standalone PDA. There are rumors that they are working on a smartphone, but WM6 os for the smartphone is different from WM6 for a standalone. Now, if anyone can give me a valid reason why Dell would even consider using their resources just to give X51 users a WM6 update when they know very well that they are probably not going to profit from it, then that would convince me that WM6 for the X51 (by DELL) is a possibility.

I have no idea... I guess the reason will only be known after the upgrade is released. Just in case it is, that is.
