I've been reading electronic books using Haali Reader (text files, not MS Reader format) ever since I got my first PPC. I don't think strain on the eyes is that great, you can set any font size you're comfortable with, and the screen is always brightly lit.

I think holding a PDA when reading is more comfortable than the bi-fold paper book. I have purchased about 125 books from fictionwise.com (they have great sales and rebates) and many from www.baen.com/www.webscriptions.net (they also have many free ones). I also love turning free online books into ebooks.

The scary part is buying books that may not be readable on any of your devices in 5-10 years. Especially with the PDA market apparently drying up :(

Yup, I am totally convinced.
I have started using MS Reader and find it very comfortable and convenient.
I bought the Ax mainly for doing Powerpoint and Word on the Road but now realize that the ability to carry an almost limitless source of reading material is going to be a major plus for me.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

I want to thank the several posters who recommended Mobipocket reader. I have been using eReader (free version) for several years, but two days downloaded the free Mobipocket Desktop and Mobipocket mobiler reader and bought 5 books!! Wow, it is like visiting a bookstore on your desktop now and the desktop "bookstore" keeps the Axim updated. The options on the mobile reader are awesome with the little icons you can add to your toolbar. And I never have used a black background, but I am now, with the pale yellow type, and it IS much easier on the eyes.

Thanks so much :approve:
