How come a HP iPAQ RX1955 can run WM5 and the x50v cant

I had a go on a HP iPAQ RX1955 and it was running WM5 very very fast indeed, with lots of applications, Wisbar, Pocketbreeze etc...etc...

32MB SDRAM, 64MB Flash and a 300mhz proc..

How come this can run WM5 so well and when I upgraded my x50v it ran terribly..

I so dont understand...I really don't...

It's to do with the type of memory.. Nand vs Nor.

First have a look at this

then have a go at this

and this

Bottom line is.. if you want to play with wm5 then go for it.. enjoy the ride.. make sure all your data is backed up.. and don't rely on your axim for the first month or so. It's not going to be as stable as you might expect. And when you're done enjoy life back in wm2003se land with the upgrade

Short form: One was designed for it, and the other doesn't. And having OWNED an rx1950, let me be the first to assure you that it barely runs it at all. :P

Did you run WM5 with the A02 rom? Been running it since Christmas on 3 - X50v and so far they're running fine. Some things are slower, some faster, but overall it's on par with 2003. You do need to apply the fake server hack and use a task manager to kill Activesync when done with it, but otherwise I haven't needed to make any major adjustments. I do however install 99% of the software on the storage cards to minimize the compaction thread which seems to help a lot.

Cheers Psion Andy very good links those, intersting about the different rom types...

Must admit after ready about how traditional 2003SE uses Ram to hold programs in instead of Rom this explains the speed that it runs and after all speed is what a pocket device is all about...
