Hmm Axim ROM Upgrade A04 Italian -> A12 English

I know this question may not receive many answers but....hey I pay 40 bucks/month for flat adsl service

As Title suggests, do you think that Upgrading from A04 ITalian ROM to A12 english ROM will be possible?

I've done some forum search and googling without any result

Thanks a lot and excuse my bad EnglisCh :) , I write from Italy.

Andrea

Really nobody can tell me if this is possible?
Nobody tried this?

I'm experiencing MANY problems with that PDA (this includes FREQUENT lockups, and many other problems), and just can't live with this A04 ROM which seems so far from A12.

Oh please! Help me!

It is possible, but you will be left with an axim with all english menus.

For the X51 http://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/R129273.EXE

For the x51V http://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/R129272.EXE

Warning there are many reported upgrade problems for people upgrading english ROM versions, continue at your own risk!!!!

Ok, I've managed to Upgrade from A04IT to A12EN but using the SD bootloader.
Everything was fine, thanks to the SD Bootloader tutorial found here and some other text resources I've found around the net.

I'm now happy with my upgraded, out-of-warranty, english-speaking X51V.

Still can't believe that nobody had already tried this update.

Thank you,
Andrea

language change

I had a similar problem after buying an X51V on e-bay and finding that it had a Spanish ROM. I tried most of the tricks about starting an update using the (in my case) Spanish ROM and then swapping the ROM to an English one that had been renamed to look like the Spanish one. The upgrade went so far and then finished quickly with absolutely no changes made. The only way that I succeeded in the end was to use a bootloader and ROM image on an SD card to install the English A12 ROM. This worked faultlessly. I can't remember where the link was for the instructions for this, but I know I found it on Aximsite (the link that is) and the instructions were on an Italian website. The process sounds complicated, but was in fact very easy. Even with a poor English translation from teh Italian website I was able to follow the instructions. As you are Italian you should have even less trouble.

There is also a good English tutorial on the forum, search for "Tutorial : How to revive a bricked x51(v) using Domme's SD ROM loader tutorial."

Good Luck!

Like mentioned above it's quite easy to change the language via the SD Flashing rom method. But it's illegal and it will invalidate your warranty, also you must be carrefull that the rom fits your bootloader.
However it's not going to change anything if you switch from A04 IT to A12 EN, as they are exactly at the same level (aku 2.3.1). If you have issues it's because of your device configuration or you experiencing some conflicts with some of your software.

Icon14 Got It

Ok I got it (and already pressed the wrong 'reply' button once..), and now my Italian X51V speaks English!
Well, don't know if problems were related to some particular software installed onto the A04, but now I have the same softwares installed and they seem to work just how they should do.
This includes PocketSNES which now output some sound out of the speaker while before the upgrade I played mute games

I've read somewhere that A12 contains an audio driver update.

However, thanks everybody for you kind replies,

Andrea from Italy (but with A12 image :) )
