Yes! SD cards are only available with capacities up to 4 GB. And 4 GB are only made by a few manufactures most notably Transcend and Adata. If you want to buy some go here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...13500&name=4GB
Any card higher than 4 GB is an SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) and while they look the same physically they are very different and not compatible with any axim.

Do a search, man. :D
As noted in the SD card association whitepaper, there are apparently hardware differences, as they describe a hybrid SD/SDHC card which uses a physical switch to change memory areas so it can be used in a SD 1.1 device.
Plus, the fact that normal SD 1.1 readers can't read them should tell you it's a hardware issue: if it was just software, then Windows could use the same reader for both after a driver update. As Windows doesn't need a new driver for SDHC cards, and just switching readers does the trick... It's hardware.

I know this is a stupid question but I have to ask anyway how many pins on an SDHC card? I know the SD card has 9 and MMC has 7.

I can confirm (with delight) that a Transcend 4GB MMC card WORKS with X50V (WM2003SE). TS4GMMC4 card model. (worked straight out of the packet).
The Dell site stipulates the max card size for the SD slot is 2GB and max for CF is 4GB (not tested CF yet).
Had already tried a generic OEM 4gb SD card ( did NOT work (was not recognised). Experience on other devices is some chipsets compatibility varies. I cannot definitively state that all 4gb SD cards do not work.
My understanding (google it) is that MMC Plus cards (same functionality as SD) generally are more compatible in the larger capacities than the SD counterpart.

The SD 1.1 specification lists that the maximum size of an SD card is 2GB, but the addressing scheme used allows up to 4GB (absolute maximum! 32-bit byte addressing allows 4 billion bytes = 4GB) to be addressed. This means that while a 4GB card is possible it is neither endorsed or supported by the SD specifications and they make no guarantee that it will work in your device.
I have a 4GB Keymem SD card working happily in my Axim, but one of my card readers can only see about 900MB of it while others can read/write all of it so there are cases when 4GB will not work.
CF is not subject to these limitations as it does not use the same absolute addressing scheme used by SD, CF is only limited in the same way as ATA hard drives are so I suspect the theoretical maximum is in the 137GB area. Unless you are using a CF reader that supports updated ATA specs in which case the maximum could be larger. The largest CF card I have seen is 32GB and that is limited by cost of memory and size rather than actual specifications....
