see hereid like to continue that discussion by sayin that how can football's efforts be considered warez but not all the efforts to port widcomm onto wm5
1) Resco Keyboard Pro is a commercial product. Including it in the ROM image basically involves some piracy, since it has to be registered with a specific registration code that should be based on the owner name.
2) HTC's X-button utility can be seen as a commercial product, since it's not distributed publically, and only shows up on certain devices. Redistribution without permission is usually seen as infringement on the product developer's copyright. Ditto the Home plugin.
And Noisy Crow did explain the first point in this post of the same thread, which you've so conveniently ignored. Not that I'm surprised.... ;)

no I saw that,I can't understand y ppl are so worried about something little as that.
I like this site. I do not want it shut down. I am ok with strict rules such as this. At the same time, this is what google is for. There is enough information if you want to track it down. Keep this site clean.
Bottom line, it is illegal (or as Martin would prefer unlawful) to redistribute a commercial product without their express permission. The ROM image in question included several commercial products which, I am fairly certain, were not awarethat they had been included and were not being properly compensated fro that inclusion.
Also, I would argue that there is a problem with the distribution of any homemade ROM images that do not come from MS or DELL, but that is another argument for another day.

You think they'll release a custom ROM WITHOUT the commercial products, but with performance tweaks and the like?
I don't condone warez or anything like that, but I'm all for an optimized ROM on my X50v that at least has Broadcom from the start, takes up less RAM, and removes apps like Dell Home that I never use(therefore freeing up NVRAM for more storage). And, most importantly, removes the occasional CPU hog issue that makes this thing quite sluggish.

When I read this opening post on this thread and some of other post in this thread, like Eric I wonder why there is a sticky (on this very same x50 / x51 forum) containing a cab Package distribution of a bluetooth widcomm stack extracted from some WM5 rom. Was there any authorization get from widcomm to do that.
If the custom rom made buy football contains some resco product, it will still require buying a license to use it right? So what's the problem then, my axim was also shipped with a CD containing some resco product but still most of them required a licence to get fulll usage.
I understand why the Custom ROM thread was locked, but then so should be the widcomm one.
I hope these crab mentality guys doesn't multiply when exposed to water. It's sad enough that WM6 is not allowed here, but leave Widcomm alone. To those who want to "play" mod MYOB.
