It never seems to drain any battery over night whilst off
|
Thud, you kidding me, right?
The thing is, while doing lot's of complicated stuff with my Dell Axim x50v WM5 A02, i'm not exactly sure what is a proper way to turn of your Axim. What i mean is that very often when i press that power button, the device shuts itself as it doesn't show anything on screen, but the battery still drains pretty quickly over night. (even through thats what my manual says). It seems like my device is rather in sleep mode. If you hold the power button for about 3 sec, the Axim just turns the light off. Is there something wrong with my device?

Yes you need to apply the Activesync fake server and add something like Vbar to make sure activesync has actually closed, my 2003SE definately drains more power over night than the WM5 ever did...
At the moment I am having a nightmare with Bluetooth on 2003SE

There is about 20 apps that I use frequently, the rest not so often. But even if I keep installing apps I will still have the same amount of available ram to run the programs.

UPDATE : 2003SE
So far after downgrading to 2003SE again, I have had to soft reset daily, bluetooth is a pain connecting with my Bt338 and to be honest I am missing the stability of WM5, bluetooth just worked and in two weeks only soft reset twice...
What is wrong with 2003SE, I am not sure going back to WM5 as surely keep flashing back and forth will eventually kill the device...

UPDATE: Upgrading to WM5 again...
For me, 2003SE just has to be soft reset too often, everytime I want to play Virtual Pool, it never wants to load but will after soft reset. copious amounts of bluetooth dropping out problems and I miss the better Word, Excel and powerpoint, the PIE is a hell of a lot better on wm5 and the battery life on a standard battery with 2003SE is very much less, I was contemplating selling up and getting an x51v, but thought it had more Ram, but it just has more ROM, which is not an issue as I have 2GB SD and CF plenty for what I need.
I miss being able to have lots and lots of applications loaded on SD etc...
I miss the way you can have about 8 applications open at once without hang ups...
Ok I shall have to monitor what is getting written to the device memory to keep it running as fast as 2003SE, but this is really not that much of a problem.
I also prefer the email and contacts layout and central keyboard.
The bluetooth always worked so much better especially turning of and on in between using.
I know some of you are convinced 2003SE is the greatest, but I am returning to the WM5, I'm still not sure why the device Hard reset itself, but it has happened once before on 2003SE.
So just incase anyones at all interested in this pendulum affair with WM5 and 2003SE

UPDATE :
Installed on SD...
Virtual Pool GLES....don't need to soft reset before, just runs everytime perfectly
Flip It...new little animation doodle package, great fun
Memory Map...runs about 30% faster on WM5 and look up of maps is almost instant
Collins Bird Guide....runs as it should
Pocket Breeze...the most used on my device and runs as fast as 2003SE
PHM reg editor...useful for getting WM5 just right
Tweaks2k2...also a necessity for WM5 running fast
eSymetric Run.GPS...perfect GPS running log, brilliant software runs as it should
Chapura PocketMirror...makes syncing with 2007 office spot on
Igo 2006 Plus....nicest looking and most accurate navigator for the UK.
More applications adding
so much happier now....maybe my way of working suites WM5 better, who knows

Thud,
I published the PIE Ramdisk script here (amoung other scripts). This version is very easy to use, you don't need to modify the registry path, it will do it for you, just install Ramdisk, and use the script to launch PIE. Every thing is automatic it will also check that you have ramdisk properly installed. :)

Makuu, thanks for those scripts, I never followed up on installing Mort and all that last time, but have done it just now...WOW the HighresRamdisk PIE one is probably the greatest thing I have ever installed, it automatically runs RAMdisk, opens PIE in rotated view, seems to have set it to trueVGA which is something I have always wanted, and when you close it it turns of RAMdisk so you don't even need to soft reset...You should get an award for this....WM5 is even more perfect now

Ugh... had to do a hard reset becuase something wewnt weird with Sktools... and when I try pressing the calender button nothing happens... *eeeeeep* I tried removing the battery to 'erase' but of course because I've now got persistant memory that doesn't work... not quite sure how to get my axim out of this state because it won't connect via active sync either... any ideas?

hrmm left the axim battery out over night and it reset, but I can`t hard reset by pressing (not the calender button doh!) the button you normally press to confirm hard reset.
