Axim X51 keeps locking up for no reason

I've had my X51 since last June and love it. Very sturdy and reliable, but it started acting up on me about two weeks ago. Every day it will lock up and become unresponsive. I turn it on and nothing happens. Sometimes I'm in the middle of doing something on it, and it just locks up. When I try to turn it off and then back on, the screen fades out, but does not go completely black. It refuses to turn back on. I have to reset it.

Every day when I get to work I put it in the cradle to charge and sync with my work PC. Now half the time I grab it to take it to a meeting or whatever, it's frozen and I have to reset it again.

Anyone have a clue as to why this is happening?

Thanks!

What Rom version do you have?
Did you install any new software at the time that it started acting up?

I installed the latest ROM version around the first of the year. I did download a game onto the device and thought that maybe that was causing the problem. I uninstalled it but it continues to lock up several times each day.

Did you run any optimization tweaks? When I have mine tweaked up for performance it frequently crashes and locks up when I run more than one or two programs at a time or try to switch it back on after sleep mode. I prefer setting it up for optimum stability--slower but very reliable.

I had mine lock up....ie, the white screen of death and just no response every few days of just sitting in the cradle. The battery would barely last a day if I had it off the cradle.

Soooo I did the "fake server" trick to see if it was because it was always trying to sync, even when off the cradle, and it worked. Ive had mine off the cradle since Sunday, (its now Thursday) and its only down to 80%, though thats without any usage.

Do a search, and follow the directions. It seemed to have cured a few probs for me!

Thanks again loyal Aximsite posters!:approve:

it's about time to "factory reset", which completely cleans up the machine
and I found the bt on X51v is not stable when having 2 connections (a2dp+dialup), the bt just stops working, reset don't help, requires full-off
btw, it's MS stack, tried broadcom V5, and it's worse (the entire machine crash after about 30 mins)
I'd use X50v instead

Mine was locking up immediately after a vbar task swicher program was installed so from now on I only install one program at a time and test it out for a day or so before installing another. Now I keep my A12 version pretty clean. ie.no vista look or other pretty looking programs.

Well I just deleted the four most recently installed programs (which takes me back well before it started acting up) and it's still doing it. I even made sure the registry was cleaned up as well.

Your suggestion of installing one at a time and giving it some time is a great idea - a little late, but still great one.
