i'm desperate!!! x50v won't connect with activesync

I knew that were issue around windows mobile 5, but i was really bored to loose data on my pocket pc every 2 week or so.

You buy a pocket pc to remember what human brain usually forget, but in that case i re-inserted so many times the data into my axim that there were only 2 choices for me: 1) use an old good piece of paper 2) upgrade to WM5

as you imagine i choose option nr. 2 :( :(

i used the original CD shipped from Dell, inside it has rom A01 and activesync 4.0

The installation went fine, no problem at all, but now i can't connect with activesync, i tried different version of activesync on different computers, but nothing.

On inspiron 8200 i installed activesync 4.0 provided from Dell
on inspiron XPS i installed activesync 4.5 downloaded from Microsoft.

I tried to connect trough:
USB Cradle
BT
IR

perhaps i had to use another ROM version? does it exists? because i saw one on dell site reporting A02, but i don't understand if it's WM5 or WM2003.

reading around (including on this forum) i found a lot of thread reporting same issue, but i didn't find how to solve it.

hope you can help me, thx a lot.

Just to be sure........ when you look at Start>Settings>About you see that it says Windows Mobile Version 5? I only ask because a lot of people thought that after the first hard reset during the upgrade that it was finished at that point. So assuming you do see the above, with the pda disconnected, delete the current association using the ASync on your desktop, File>Delete Mobile Device. You don't have to delete your 'files' if you don't want to but the window shouldn't show your pda name when you are done. insert the pda in the cradle at this point and you should see it start AS and ask you if you want to associate it and sync it. You may want to be sure that you turn off ANY firewall including the Microsoft one as they may interfer with syncing. You can turn it back on after you get it working. Hope this helps.

well....

for the moment problem solved. dunno how :)

i already turned off my firewall and delete previous activesync profile, on one computer it was a fresh install.

after hundreds unplug and plugin on three different pc, it connected, i didn't waste time and first thing i upgraded to A02 downloaded from Dell site.

Now is connected to this PC and seems to works well, hope it doesn't happen again.

Now i have other issue, like the WiFi connection, but i think i have to open another thread for it.

bigdave really thx for ur help :D

No problem. you should look at Ikehikers guide to wireless and you will find most of your answers in there. it is under the front page and communications and is a sticky at the top of that page. But feel free to post there if you have more questions. Welcome to Aximsite!

If you have WM5....

Settings...Connections.....USB to PC.
Uncheck the tick box

Install 4.2 version of ActiveSync first...with your anti virus off, after installed turn back on...

Then device will sync, depending on your version of office you may need Pocketmirror to sync contacts correctly.
