Motorola HT820 headphones and X51V - need help please

Hi,

I have a new pair of Motorola HT820 Bluetooth stereo headphones.
I'd like to use them to listen to music stored on my Dell Axim X51V (A12, MS stack).

For some strange reason, I am only able to hear the first few notes of a song, but then there is only silence.

I am not sure if I am pairing them correctly or if I am setting them up correctly, since I am very new at this.

Can anyone please offer guidence?
Thanks..

Hi, Hofshi. In order to use stereo headphones, you have to download the high quality audio BT hack. This will add A2DP and AVRCP support, neither of whihc are included with the BT stack which was included when you purchased your Axim.

I don't have the instructiuons for getting it handy, but you can find them here on Aximsite.

Try this, I think you will be pleased with it.

_______________________________________

Reading some posts talking about how large Menneisyys' thread is becoming, Beemer and me have agreed about starting this new one. It's already difficult to know how the developing process is going, what is each one working on, files required and so on due to the large amount of posts in Menneisyys' thread.

Let's try to keep this one as short as possible in order to have a quick reference about the x51v and x50v WM5 Widcomm BT Project.

Let's start with a summary of current state:

There are two major versions at this time:

Version 2. Based on Widcomm 1.5.200 which can be downloaded here. A DUN patch is necessary for this version. Get it from here.

Version 3. Based on Widcomm 1.7.100. Download it here.

Both versions have more or less the same profiles working. Unfortunately, we don't have all the necessary components of version 1.7 and, for example, the icons in this version have disappeared.

Functionalities working are:

- DUN
- PAN
- OBEX
- ActiveSync via BT
- Serial
- Keyboard

Not working:

- Audio profiles
- Other profiles go at low speed (115200bps)

We are working on sound profiles and low speed problem, which are related, as it's not possible to use A2DP with this low bandwidth.

Things we are looking for at this moment:

Files dumped from ROMs of X50, X50 WM5, Acer 311, HX4700 WM5 or any XDA with WM5 and Widcomm stack.

Some exhaustive knowledge about x51v hardware, just to know whether audio for HFP and HSP can be transmitted directly to the PCM input of the chip or an SCO driver is neccessary.

Any news or progress made will be posted here, as well as on Menneisyys'. Anyone working on this please let us know what you are working on, what you think the solutions for the problems we currently have could be or any other idea useful for the development.

Thank you.

UPDATE 04-25-2006: State of the project

- Speed problem is solved.
- A2DP seems to work quite well (not perfect yet).
- HFP & HSP seem to work in some cases with x50v.
- BT and WiFi run OK together.

Latest package available: v0.37. Download it here
Download this patch to allow BT and WiFi coexistance.

Check this installation guide by SolSie.

Working on:

- HFP & HSP
- Some minor fixes

UPDATE 05-07-2006: State of the project

- HFP & HSP working. Download the patch for version 0.37 here. This patch supersedes the coexistence one.

- This patch seems to fix the AS over BT problems some users reported.

UPDATE 05-08-2006: NEW VERSION 0.38

- HFP & HSP working
- AS over BT fixed
- Coexistance fixed
- Full CAB installation. Only MS stack removal has to be done manually.

Full release information can be read in this beemer's post

Download version 0.38 here

UPDATE 06-01-2006: NEW VERSION 0.50

- Full installable and deinstallable CAB file. MS stack removal is performed by the installable package and it is restored when uninstalled.
- New WirelessPower utility, developed as a replacement and enhacement of the original Wireless power button applet. It has a fully configurable GUI to fit user needs and device capabilities.

Download sites for the new version:

http://www.kevong.com/DOCUMENTS/Broa...tackX51V05.zip

http://bt.evanjt.com/BroadcomBluetoothStackX51V05.zip

Full release information can be read in this beemer's post

UPDATE 06-13-2006: A2DP FIX

It seems Axim's Bluetooth is not too stable working at 921600bps. A2DP hangs randomly at this speed. Decreasing the speed of the communication between the BT uart of the PXA270 and the BT chip to 460800bps seems to solve this issue. Get a little utility to switch between 460kbps and 921kbps from:

http://btfix.thcgirls.com/BTSpeedSwitcher.zip

http://www.kevong.com/DOCUMENTS/BTSpeedSwitcher.zip

http://bt.evanjt.com/BTSpeedSwitcher.zip

UPDATE 10-23-2006: FLOWCONTROL FIX

A new solution for A2DP hangs has been found: Setting
[HKLM\SOFTWARE\WIDCOMM\BTConfig\SerialTransport]
FlowControl=0

seems to avoid the wrong behavior at 921600bps. So setting FlowControl=0 you can restore the original high speed configuration with BTSpeedSwitcher and listen to high quality audio without problems. Read the original post. You can also apply this fix importing this regfile by Menneisyys.

UPDATE 05-08-2006: Paypal accounts

As some users have requested this information, here it is our paypal information:

beemer: beemer[at]teleline.es
mikelspikel: mikelmartin[at]wanadoo.es

Thank you very much.

The A12 ROM image includes A2DP and AVRCP so no need to download anything extra. I used to have a pair of HT820's, great until the neck band broke.

As a test, remove all pairing from the axim, and switch off other bluetooth devices (mobiles, computers, etc, not switch them off physically, but turn off bluetooth!). Soft reset the axim. Put the headphones in pairing mode, and pair up with the axim. Switch off headphones and BT on the axim. Then switch on BT on the axim first, wait for it to settle, then switch on the HT820 and wait for them to connect. Queue something up in WMP and press play on the headphones (not axim).

I've had a few minor niggles with those headphones (indeed any BT headsets), but I believe its more down to the MS stack and BT power on the axim. Also, had a few issues when I paired both the axim and my phone to the HT820, sometimes the music would cut out completely, and had to switch everything off and on again.

Failing that, you could install the Widcomm stack and see how that fairs. I got a set of Jabra 320s to replace the HT820, and that refused to work properly with the MS stack. Installed the Widcomm one and its been fine ever since (have to knock the rate down to reduce cut-outs).

Thank you so much!
This seems like a very good way to go.

Do you have the X51V as well?

I will try to implement your advice and see how it goes. I'll report back afterwards.

Thanks again,
Hofshi.

Actually, you don't need to put a new BT stack in. I have A12 ROM and it works fine with the HT820. Basically, you need to pair them, and after it's connected you get the problems you are experiencing. Then power off your headphones. Once powered off, power them back up. When they come back up, they automatically try to reconnect to the last device they were attached, including the Axim. It reconnects after a few seconds, then they work fine.

Aximsitebluetoothicon Thank you

Thank you Beavis99 and LordArt,
I followed your suggestion and the situation is much better now :) (still using ms BT stack)

1. I am able to listen to music using the HT820 and windows media player 10.

2. every about a minute or two I lose about a second of the audio. Did you experience that as well? do you know how to resolve that?

3. I tried to listen to music using TCPMP and it worked, although I wasn't able to control the FWD and BCK from my headset. Is there some kind of plugin that needs to be installed to do that? I really prefer TCPMP to WMP...

Thanks a lot,
Hofshi.

Same here, the forward and back don't work with the buttons in tcpmp or Core player. works fine in wm player. I guess we need to put in a request on the core site for this to work.

TCPMP needs to support the AVRCP bluetooth protocol for the buttons to work. As for sound cutting issues, couple of things to try is to site the axim closer to the earphones, eg. I used to keep it in my trouser pockets and had cut outs every so ofen, but if I had it in a side pocket on my rucksack, it was fine.

Not sure if there's a reg hack for increasing BT power (or disabling any power saving features like the WiFi component has), unless anyone knows anything?

Thank you very much guys.

I am not familiar with mortplayer - is it free?

I keep getting the occasional skip in audio (once in every 2 minutes or so) even when my headphones and pocket pc are real close. Is there a way to avoid this?
