Should have bought a Blackberry

I'm a newcomer to the PDA Scene, and I have a new job at the same time. What I most wish I could do with my Axim is have email & web connectivity wherever there is cell service. Is my X51 compatible with some service provider that can provide this? Where do I start?

Connect your pda to your cellphone via bluetooth and surf away.

You're right, you should have bought a blackberry. But here is something if you have T-Mobile

You have a few options:

-Connect to a Bluetooth dumb phone. Chances are you'll need a Phone-As-Modem plan to do so, though, which is a bit more expensive.

-Insert a GSM card into the X51's CompactFlash slot.

-Replace that X51 with a converged device.

Personally, I don't get the big deal about Crackberries-they seem to be far less capable than Palm OS and Windows Mobile devices, at least for my uses(usually multimedia and gaming, not push e-mail). They have worse Web browsers, given my experience comparing a BlackBerry 8700's browser to my X50v running Opera Mobile 8.65b. They don't have touchscreens, which means no written notes or anything like that. I don't think they even had QVGA screens until the 8800, to boot. Perhaps it's the lack of third-party functionality software-wise that seems to be valued by corporate customers...

some of them don't even have directional keys. just a stupid jog dial. they must be incredibly easy to use or people wouldn't buy them.

Ehh Blackberry needs to grow beyond messaging, I say a WM6 device would do well for multiple options of push email.

Windows Live Suite
Yahoo Go! (v.1/ 293)
Flexmail 2007
EMOZE

And Blackberry will soon make an app for WM so you can't lose. ;)

How about the new E90 from Nokia; seems to be getting good press. Not sure that Symbian is as widely supported as WM from a software perspective but it might be worth looking at as an alternative to a Blackberry.

Well after a long time, I broke down and bought a Blackberry Pearl throught T-Mobile. I looked at all potential alternatives, even a CF card for the Ax, WM Smartphone, etc. For pure email and stability, a BB is probably the best unit out there. It lacks the 3rd party apps like a WM device and probably won't replace my Ax for a few tasks. But it's a heck of a phone and email device.
