x51 memory/WiFi help (noob alert)

Howdy

Concerning Wi-Fi
I've spent some time looking over old post concerning wireless cards for the lower model x51. It seems that the compatibility of cards is rather inconsistent and that no two persons are in the same boat.
1. Is the Go Wi-Fi P500 SD card by Socket compatible with the x51?
2. Is Wi-Fi Companion (also by Socket) necessary with the use of the P500?
3. If no to number 2, is it still a worthy investment?
Concerning Memory
I have not found any details in the owners manual for the x51 regarding flash based memory size limitations. I have read online in a few places that the x51 will accept any size CF, but will make use of no SD cards larger than 2gb.
1. Is this true?
2. Would you mind recommending a few wallet friendly CF, and SD cards that have proven to be reliable and practical for a broad range of file types.

With a ton of forward thanks,
Bryan

Almost forgot...
While you're already in the mood of making recommendations and answering questions would you mind suggesting a portable keyboard. Preferably one that would connect directly to the x51 via the sync cable connector rather than by means of infrared or blue tooth.

Thanks again

The max in SD cards is 4gb, :attention but be careful at the size because they make SDHC 4gb SD cards too. And SDHC is NOT compatible. But I believe the CF card is unlimited. I have a 4gb SD and a 8gb CF card I picked up from ebay. :approve: Sorry I can't help on the Wifi, I didn't care for the setup on the x51 so I sold mine and bought the x51v. :approve:

Welcome to Aximsite!

There's a stickied thread about compatible memory cards in th Storage Card forum. Be careful with fakes on Ebay though. As for the wifi card, members have reported that Spectec cards work well on the X51 (do a search here; there are a few posts on this). However, Socket also has an excellent reputation. Did you check the compatibility list on their website? (Sorry I have not provided any links for you; I'm on mobile.)

A couple of points based on info from the Socket website:

First, as far as I can tell, the "Go Wi-Fi P500" is only available as a CF card. The "Go Wi-Fi P300" is the sd card. I'm pretty sure both have been successfully used on the X51 but you should chose the one that will leave free the slot that you want to use for other purposes.

Second, I think both of these cards are supplied with the Wi-Fi Companion. Based on your second question, it looks like you were wondering if you would need to buy the Companion software and if I'm right, you do not need to worry about the additional expense for the software. In any case, I don't think it is 'essential' for use of the WiFi cards, but there have been a lot of good reports about this software. You should probably get confirmation from Socket that the Companion software is included. They tend to be pretty responsive to information requests.

I am in need of a battery cover for a X51V I have. They want $20.00 for one which I think is a bit much considering what it actually is. Have looked all over the web for another price but can not find one. Should be about a $5.00 item.
