Access PPC File System while Docked
I'm not sure where the best place to post this would be so I apologize if it should be posted someplace else. Also, the devices I am working on are not Axim's but are Trimble GPS units (Pocket PC's running WM5 with integrated GPS). The question is a general windows mobile question. I'm an Axim owner and know how knowledgeable the users on this site are so I was hoping I could find some expert advice...
Anyhow, here is the situation. We want to have an easy way to copy the GPS Data from the mobile unit over to the PC where we work with it. I wanted to set it up so that it would automatically create a new folder on the PC with today's date as its name and then copy the GPS data over into it. I wanted to try and automate this process for the end users and started writing a batch file that would do everything we needed... I quickly realized that you cannot directly access the Pocket PC file system from the PC... such as through a batch file.
I then thought that I could possibly map a drive to the storage card in the device... wrong. Then I thought that if DOS cannot see the device maybe I could setup a job through a backup utility... but that doesn't see the device either. I've never tried to do this before and am not sure if there is any way around this limitation.
So, does anyone know of a way to accomplish what I want? Is there any software out there that will perform this sort of procedure? It would help us tremendously! Any help would be great!
