Question How to Use X51V access shared files via WIFI

I'm new to fileshare via wifi, did a lot of google search, didn't find any tutorial on the subject.

I noticed people can use axim wifi fuction access wifi hard drive such as the ASUS WLHDD25.

Unable to afford one, I thought to myself, I already have pcs at home connected to a wireless G Linksys WRT54GS Router, entire network is unsecured so anyone can access. I have 2 pcs connected via WIFI, and 2 PCs connected via cable. My X51v can access internet no problem.

I really want to watch movies, and play all my music without having to rip and copy them to the SD card everytime.

So
1. How do I turn file share on in Vista (if you have tips on XP, please, I have another PC run on XP SP2) and either it ask a password to access for read only access on certin folders? I tried the instructions given my microsoft, I can't get my PDA to access.

2. What explore do I have to use in Axim to browse shared files? Will the drive show in the file explore like the SD card?

Thanks in advance.

First thing you should do is secure your network. It's pretty simple and since we both have same router I can help you set up secured wifi connection between your router and Axim or any device you want to.

I don't have Vista on my desktop only Win XP Home that I was able to upgrade with extended file sharing feature (as XP Pro has). Now I can access my files on desktop computer from Axim and ONLY from Axim, unless I go upstairs and logg on to the system. Since I donated my computer to my dad, we both share same machine with 2 user profiles on it. Bad for him that he doesn't have an access to some folders that I secured for no cost whatsoever, and once again, it has veen done on Win XP Home edition so I can't help you with Vista setup but feel free contacting me reg. router setup.

For folder browsing I recommend Resco file explorer, very powerfull tool, worth every penny. It will let you map specific folders on your PC so you can see it in "network" folder. There is also free Norton Commander for PPC but since I have already Resco product I didn't bother myself with testing.

It would be great if you can show me how to secure the network, I have no idea how.

I just got Resco Explore and I have the "My Network" tab on it. However, it doesn't have anyfolder on it.

I have seted up file share on Vista, and I also seted up the homenetwork on another PC with XP pro. I never got the file share working at all, each pc just shows itself on the network. Now with Axim, what set up do I have to do on it to to let it know to connect to the network?

There are utilities that can do this for you. I prefer to use Pocket / Total Commander, which is a great freeware file manager that does everything the built-in one doesn't as well as handle network mapping and now registry editing just like Resco does. Only without costing you thirty bucks.
