Slow loading internet pages.
I have a new Axim X51v which I am accessing the internet via Wi-Fi through a home router.
It's connected fine, but some of the internet pages take FOREVER to load. I tried to look at Yahoo weather today and it took 5 MINUTES to load the page (tedious to say the least). I used to have an Ipaq 2210 (PPC 2003)that I accessed the net with via wi-fi by the use of a CF Pretec WLAN card .... the same Yahoo weather page on that take 5 seconds to load. Yahoo is just one example though, it's really slow accross the board. :(
Anybody have any thoughts/ solutionns as to why I'd be REALLY grateful.
Many thanks in advance :approve:

I believe Axim X51v comes set to run 802.11a but with the right software you can switch this to the faster 802.11g protocol.
I'll look back at the tweaks I did over the last few months and see what I used to do the switch.

Close..- its 802.11b.
I think the hack only allows connection to g networks, not at g speeds
have a look at this thread for details about running the cache from a ramdisk.

THANK YOU! I'd be everso grateful as it's annoying at the moment (to say the least!)
My ipaq + card ran on 802.11g so that might just be the solution! :o)
Was yours slow before you changed it's settings? Do you have a X51v?
Thanks again!

Yes I have an X51v and it certainly seemed to be a lot faster once tweaked.
I am pretty sure I used SKTools to change to 802.11g.
If you have this fantastic program why not time the current access to a slow loading page, do the tweak, then time it again and report the results back here.

Hi,
Aha - 802.11b it is (or was)
Curious! as my wireless router is set for 802.11g and I could access this before the tweak.

Hello,
Also, what browser are you using? I did not like my internet experience using the included Internet Explorer Mobile on the x51. I downloaded and use the current Opera 8.65 Beta version and it is super quick. Also be sure you are using the mobile version of Yahoo. Just like Google, they have an option of mobile or classic versions, the mobile versions load much quicker.

Yep, using IE on it ..... someonelse has kindly suggested Opera to me; thought it was the 'mini' one I could try, but that's just for phones isn't it, not for PPC? Will try the 8.65 Beta ....... didn't also know that Yahoo do a mobile version ..... Google you seem to get the option very obviously, but have never seen it on Yahoo, thanks :) I shall hunt!
I don't know much about this subject, so am REALLY grateful for ALL your help and responses, thanks ...... I'll try all the things you have suggested and let you all know! :approve:

If you haven't already, disable the PowerSave feature in the Dell WLAN Main page. This feature will often cause slow page loads and will even prevent you from maintaining a network connection.

I hadn't done that, so many thanks; it was set to 'auto'. I have now changed it to 'disable' and everything is crossed in hope! :o)

:):)Hello everyone .....
Just an update on my 'problem' and to thank you all SO much for your help :o)
I've done a combination of all your ideas ... tweaked 'til I can tweak no more (used SKTools for some too, so thanks ..... and am now using Opera as my browser. Tried NetFront too which wasn't bad, but Opera wins for me at the mo!
Still a bit slow (slower than before), but LOTS better so as I say, really grateful to all of you and your ideas .....
:o)))))
