Note / memo application very slow

Hi

I've recently returned to Pocket PC land after a few years using a Palm Tungsten T5 fairly contentedly.

My new Dell Axim X51v is a nice machine hardware-wise but it can be incredibly sluggish after the Palm.

It affects the note application particularly. It takes an age (30s to a minute) for the note application to load the 600 or so notes I have (each only a couple of lines long usually) and then when I close a note it takes an equally long time to return to list view.

Is this normal?

The only peculiarity with my setup is the fact that I sync with a Mac via "The Missing Sync". I use a Mac program called Yohimbo to manage the notes on my Mac.

The Palm had no problems with this many notes, perhaps because it stored them in a database rather than the filesystem.

Any suggestions on how to mitigate this effect welcome

Thanks in advance

Hello, do you store the notes on internal storage or card storage? I have heard mentioned that if you store on card storage it may take longer to access stored files or open the app. Just a thought......

Glad you like your Axim, I also came from Palm after many years, but I am so glad now. Eventually you'll get bugs worked out and you will be happy

Thanks for your interest

I've tried both internal storage (figuring it would be faster) and card (figuring it would unload the main memory)

Both unfeasibly slow.

The notes app itself is built in and loads from ROM.

I have all the notes in my Documents directory. Would it help to segregate them in sub-directories?

Is there a faster notes / memopad program for pocket PC? Nothing fancy, just plain text.

Another thought I had was to use plain ASCII files as notes and use a text editor on my Mac as a "Desktop" companion

What do people think? Would that be faster?

Cheers

I use pocket word for my memos. It allowed me to create a deeper folder system for document storeage. The memo application was very clunky to me.
