Jerky playback of .WMV from SD card

I have a .wmv file I made from a DVD. It plays fine on my notebook but is very jerky on my X51v (using Windows Media Player).

It's loaded on a slow SD card, is that the problem? I know the movie is about 4MB/min (400MB for 90min) so even the slowest SD card has enough throughput to keep up (slowest I've seen quoted is 1.5MB/sec, and I wouldn't be surprised if this 1GB card is the slowest out there).

Or is it possible something else is wrong? I don't want to buy a faster card if something else will fix the problem. I killed all other applications and plugged in the Axim (to AC adapter) just in case.

I watch my movies stored on my 8gb CF card using tcpmp. Its also free. No issues with slow down at all.

Thanks for the data point. I thought tcpmp wasn't free any more?

And do you think the smoothness is because of tcpmp, or because your card is faster? I'm trying to figure out where to apply my resources. ;)

wmv is a bad format... most people use Avi instead.

A good free encoder is fairuse le, and Tcpmp is a good free player. a commercial version (core player) is also available
