Can't do hard reset: "press contacts" screen flashes by too fast in startup

I know this is a common problem, at least I've read it here before. But for the life of me I can't seen to find the answer in the archives.

My x51v has gotten unstable on me and I keep getting freezes and the dang odyssey funk message all the time. I just want to hard reset back to the A12, or re-install the A12 ROM but every time I try to do a hard reset, the acknowledgment screen flashes by so fast that I can't press the "contacts" button to acknowledge. I've tried holding the contacts button down and tried timing it to hit it at just the right second to no avail.

How do I do a hard reset when I have this problem? I'm at a loss.

Thanks

I've not heard of this problem before, so perhaps I won't be able to help.

It's been a while since I've had to do a hard reset myself *touchwood* but I can't remember the press the Contacts button to acknowledge step. Does it come after the initiating process part of a hard reset, namely:

1. Hold down the Power button (don't let go).
2. Push the Reset button with your stylus.

or is there some other way to do a hard reset that I'm not aware of? If so, you might like to try the above instead and see if that gets you back to a working state.

Yep, that's exactly the procedure that I'm following. Hold down the power button then press the reset button with the stylus. It goes through the hard reset routine just fine but the acknowledgement screen flashes by so fast I can't acknowlege and then it just finishes restarting normally without the hard reset

Usually that problem is caused by only doing the first part of the A12 rom upgrade. You need to do it again and follow all of the steps here: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/x50-x...step-step.html. don't skip any of the steps. You will end up doing two hard resets at least. My advice is once the upgrade is complete that you do one more hard reset for good luck! actually that extra hr seemed to fix a problem I was having after the upgrade with the battery usage. good luck
