standby or turning off completely

i seem to lost the manual and i never knew what actually happens when pressing the on/off button.. Is it standby or is it completely off?

So basically i just open the latch and take the battery off/on so i know i'm not draining battery when needing some info from the axim....

so not even sure if there is standby but if there is ... what is pressed for standby and what is pressed to turn off.. sure feel like a blonde but don't have manual so i can't be sure..

Some software can determine what your pressing the button does, whether it just blanks the screen or puts it in a sleep mode. If you hold down the power button for several seconds, you will get a prompt that asks if you wish to turn your device fully off. Note that in this case all temporary data stored in memory, such as a document you might be working on, will be lost.
