Black screen when cradled

Having just installed the excellent TomTom Navigator 6 onto my X51v the screen goes black when cradled. If I take the PDA off the cradle it lights back up and if I touch the screen it lights back up too but I have to keep touching the screen otherwise it goes black again after 3 seconds. If this something that the GPS software is causing? For the first couple of days the screen was fine with the GPS software on board, it's just today it started.

Any help would be most welcome.

Cheers.

Your brightness settings are messed up. Even if they look okay change them then put them back so as to force the correct settings.

Aaarh, spoke too soon. It's going back to black but taking a lot longer to do it. I've moved the brightness slider all the way to the left and then all the way to the right. Mmm, what next? I've now turned off the 'On External Power' dim if device is idle for more than...

Now, I just have to wait and see.
