weird sd card problem

Hello I haven't posted here for a while but have a weird thing that happened to my axim. I left it in a friends purse and I don't know what she did with it but when I got it back today I can not open any programs through the start menu. If I open them through file explorer they work fine but nothing but the pre-installed programs open otherwise. I just saw that I have two sd card folders in file explorer now. "SD Card" with nothing in it but one program which does open and "SD Card 2" with everything else on it. This was never there before until now. I tried cutting and pasting everything into "SD Card" but it doesn't work. Does anyone know the problem here or how to go around it without having to re-install everything!?

Thank you all again

How long was it left in the purse? It sounds the device did a hard reset. Basically, you lost everything you installed/changed that was saved to the internal memory (this includes program shortcuts). You still have the data in SD (and/or CF) since that is not touched by a hard reset. If you have a recent backup, you can restore to that to save you the trouble of rebuilding. As for SD and SD2, try another hard reset (hold down power button while doing a soft reset, then follow the prompts) but take your card out of the device first.

If your device really did a hard reset, you have no choice but to reinstall to get all your programs back. However, if you can access some of them directly from your SD card then just create new shortcuts into the start menu. Using File Explorer, tap and hold on the .exe, select copy, then navigate to Windows\Start Menu\Programs then tap and hold on a blank spot and select Paste Shortcut. After you are finished rebuilding your device, make sure you do regular backups. Yes, I know WM5 supports persistent memory, but there are occasions where hard resets do occur. ;)

If you have your message attatchments stored on your sd card and then don't have the card in, then messaging will helpfully(???????) create an sd card folder in main mem, and hence your sd card gets renamed.

Take out the sd card, reboot, delete the sd card folder in explorer, put the sd card back in and reboot....
