x51v Rom with aku 3.5.2

Just for your information, I have patched football A17 rom, it's available in his thread with CF support. ;)

Updating the first post to have it look nicer.

First I want to thank football for being the first to try and succeed in building a new rom for an axim device.

Here some screenshots of the rom (from his websire 4pda).

The rom is build on WM5 aku 3.5.2 with x51v drivers and utilities, it doesn't contain any extra software.

There is also an english thread @ xda, but it still doesn't include the patched rom at the time I'm writing those lines.

Flashing a ROM via SD is a potentialy dangerous and will invalidate your axim warranty.
You will be responsible for it if you do it, this is neither my responsability neither aximsite's responsibility.

Although, I spent time on this rom during these last two weeks, I didn't spent so much time to really use it.
I spent all the time trying to understand how it was build in order to try to fix the CF issue.

So don't ask me too many question on it.

Update:

I have added modification on the fooball A17 rom, it has now SDHC support, message windows are centered, It fixes the battery indicator issue, and the missing recording icon in notes. It also has the colorado fix embedded and has transcriber and messenger. and I also changed:

These settings are supposed to increase performance, you'll get these values from sktools. However as they increase performance by using more RAM, I have changed the pagepool value to 5 Mo. By doing so you will get more than 32 Mo at soft reset.

The default value to page pool for x51v Rom is 8 Mo. You can modify pagepool value by using the PPeditor tool from Paveld, then you'll also need his CRC cal tool.

I have called this modified rom M17, it's available here.

Finally CF support. So is there really any risk of bricking your device so that it can't be reflashed?

There is always a risk, you must decide to take the responsibility or not, this is neither my responsability neither aximsite's responsibility. This must be flashed above an aku 231 bootloader. I have flashed my device over 30 times I guess before finally having the CF support.

It has pie with vga high resolution support. :)

Do you have the dialog positioning working correctly? If so, what did you do to get the dialogs to center properly?

what do I need to download to instal the A18 Rom on my x51v. The russian on his website has his x51v listed as A18, so maybe there is something that I can't read on his website, the translation is weird. If you could just post an idiots guide to installing it, step by step and what to download, I use CF so it is required.

A18 is not available yet. He has it next to his avatar because he created A17/A18. Makuu's A17 with the CF patch should be good enough.

Go to the Russian website and visit the last page (page 27 at the time of posting) and have a look for a post by makuu with a download link with the text здесь. That is the A17 ROM with the CF support. You then need to download the two fixes (Фикс окон уведомлений (Спасибо paveld) (только для А17) and Fix VGAKEY bug (Спасибо Metazoa) which are listed in the first post of the thread).

Now, format your SD card to FAT32 then extract the contents of the RAR file from makuu. All you should have are two files on the root of the SD Card (DiAd_K_AximX51v_WM5_A17EN.nb0 & DiAd_K_AximX51v_WM5_A17EN_nb0.crc).

Now you need to press Reset while holding the Power button and the Wireless button. After you have pushed Reset, keep holding down the Power and Wireless button's until the SD Boot Loader appears. Now you can let go.

Press the Action key (the one in the D-Pad) to start the process and follow the instructions on the screen. It will take about 10 mins to complete. When it does, it will ask you to hard reset. Do that and the Axim will boot up with A17.

Then you can use your preferred registry tool of choice to import those .reg files you downloaded. They are to fix some of the dialog and display issues arising from this ROM.

oh BTW, are there newer releases that i might want to upgrade my ax to? Other than the Football...

R01 is russian rom.
Football, is planning new realease of his rom. He is the one who keeps control of his rom.

Like I mentioned before I didn't have time to test the rom so much. For me the very good thing is that it has Pie High Res feature.

We have a user from our french website that has reported is success in using CF Gps Haicom 305, while he could never use it with previous aku.

I guess that for all advanced user that are not so happy with football release (that is really good in my opinion), they will have to cook their own by themself.

This ROM is Windows Mobile 5 with the AKU 3.5.2 update. AKU 3.2.5 brings the speed of Windows Mobile 5 up on par with Windows Mobile 6 as Microsoft have tweaked a lot of features to give better performance.

This ROM does use graphics and icons from Windows Mobile 6 so aesthetically it does look a lot like Windows Mobile 6, however it is still Windows Mobile 5 so it does not include the improved versions of Office, Mail, PIE and Windows Live integration.
