Go for the x51v... just got it, look for those on ebay that have warrantys, it's the security I was looking for, got mine for 280.00 shipping included with 6 months left on the warranty, just transfer it if you want, then extend it, if Dell doesn't have enough PDAs out of developement to replace yours they'll give you a newer model.

Also, you might as well go for the x51v, the chances of finding a valid warranty is better and the x50v and x51v are relatively close in price range.\

Good luck, BTW I like my x51v... especially for the price, Derek

I'll just add a quicky by saying get an X51v if you can - I still love using this device... It's a dream to use, and it doesn't crash every five minutes (considering it's a Dell!) :D It's a little gem!

If you can find a new one, I'd say get it. I was lucky enough to get a 51v from Dell the day before they vanished from the site. Had to wait a month for delivery. I bought it because I wanted a backup if my 50v ever died. It has worked perfectly for years and probably will continue...if I don't drop it. There are SO many programs available, many free, to do the kind of record keeping you need. I mostly use Excel for my CD list, personal budget. I use it as a music player with bluetooth headphones at work. I have a (free now!) music synth/sequencer for playing around. I agree with everyone that this is the best buy you can make...always was. Go for it! And be sure to buy a good strong case!

It's difficult to estimate how incredibly useful a PocketPC is. I've had my X50 for 2-and-a-half years and have been using PPC's ever since they came out. I, too, used to use a paper scheduler/calendar/contacts list - there's no contest. That X51v will last for YEARS if you just take good care of it.

The Pocket PC software you place on it will not go "out of style" either - as long as you still find it useful. PPC is becoming a mature platform - the software is not going to become incompatible quickly either.

Plus add all the Palm stuff out there that could run in PPC thanks to StyleTap.

Why do you care about how much time a good thing will remain with you? Just care of it a lot (since you value what it give to you), and live happy for all the way up to the time something better would appear out there.
