A simple backup question?

I'm using an Axim X50V and Vista. I want to COMPLETELY backup my device, INCLUDING the SD (4gb) and CF (4gb) cards. It seems the "full backup" routine only backs up the device memory and not the SD/CF cards. How do I BU the SD/CF cards? Use a simple file copy/paste to a C drive folder? Will this then allow a copy back to the cards in the correct Axim format?

Yes, you can use copy and paste. But if you want to do a full backup, you need to backup the registry to, or some of your programs will not work. Google PHM Registry Editor. This software has a function to backup your registry, but make sure when you want to restore, you install the program back on to your device, then select import. This program is free. It will put a REG file on your device, then you can move the file to the computer.

I think Sprite backup will also backup your storage cards. But copying the contents of your storage cards to a subdirectory on your computer works just fine. I have done it many times and it works fine - no conversion of documents needs to be done to make them work okay on the Pocket PC.

I use Spb Backup application for exactly what your wanting to do. It has never failed me and I have tested its backups routinely on a quarterly basis.

spb backup works, but the backup file could get huge depending on how much you have stored on your cf/sd cards.

I use SPB backup to make a nightly backup of my x50v plus a few critical files on my CF/SD cards.

About once a month I use a cheap card reader, hooked up to my laptop to make a complete copy of my CF/SD cards.

This configuration has not let me down in one and half years.

I also use the method you mentioned of a card reader for the CF/SD cards. Another method I use when the card reader I have is unavailable is to use the 'Explore' feature within AS after my unit has completed a full sync. I open the AS 'Explore' and my PC 'My Computer' and do a simple copy/paste to the PC folder I keep all of my CF/SD card contents.
