THERORETICAL 3500mah x50/51 battery

I know this is possible I just don't know how to do it. I want to make something like this from Toshiba: toshiba-e740.jpg
Obviously we'd have to leave room for the reset button, but other than desigining the cover to hook into the little holes right above the rubber feet, this shouldn't be dificult for the battery producers. I Imagine it would look something like this:

100_1732.jpg
I realize that the weight would increse but for those of us that use our Ax for EVERYTHING the added battery life would be welcome. And we'd still be able to use or cradles! :approve:

If there are any developers out there I'd love to see this and would pay the $ for a couple of these. :)

It's a pity, 'cos a very long life battery option would be useful, but it might be difficult to persuade a manufacturer to make such product, now that Dell have stopped making axims.
:(

Mugen already make a very good 3300mah battery, did you know about that?

I think constructing a brand new battery is not easy at all, unless you can find a battery company willing to design and make one for you, doing it yourself is out of the question (or at least dangerous with the reactivity of lithium cells). You're right, it should be perfectly possible though, at least with the right expertise.

I would guess you could get about four times the standard battery capacity (~4400mAh) using ndepuy's proposal.

I know about the 3300mah one from Mugen, but with this battery we can't use our cradles (without Modding). Also I get tired of, when I'm using it on the table with the 2200mah battery I've got, the rocking effect when I'm turning it on and off. I realize this is a weird quirk but that's just me :approve:

I was hoping that someone out there would know if there is a custom battery manufacturer that would like to take on this little endevor and give us a guestimate on what it would cost.

This is a nice idea, however, the biggest problem is that Dell have axed the Axim. Had they continued supporting and developing it, or even newer models, then perhaps Mugen Power would consider it. But any further upgrades on their batteries is pretty much out of the question. The volume would not be enough to warrant the development costs. And believe me we are talking about higher costs. Then, even when the battery is developped, the cost of the battery would still be too high for most users.

Take the 1800mAh battery for the X50/X51 as an example. We came out with a 2mm thicker battery but the development costs made it higher than the 2200mAh battery. As you can see, many didn't like to pay more for a less powerful battery. And as soon as Mugen had released the new 1800mAh battery, other competitors copied the design and were able to offer it at a lower price. Since they didn't have any R&D to do, they were able to sell it at a lower cost. Mugen, who paid all the R&D got hit with lower sales because they were trying to recoup their initial costs.

It's a vicious cycle.

So I wouldn't hold my breath on this type of battery. Sorry for the bad news.
