So, with all that testing done, is there a general format setting that will give good results across the board? Possibly one for smaller cards and one for larger cards? what would be the cut off between the two?

there're no hard and fast rules because all cards behave differently (see my quantitive results). do the benchmarks I've explained to find your particular best settings.

OK, so there no general setting across the board. Would it be ok to say that cards of the same make, model and size would be similar enough to use the same settings? Meaning all SanDisk Ultra II 2Gb CF cards would optimize with the same format settings. If that's the case, then we can start another thread, and possibly get it stickied, and those who did these tests on different cards could post their results. That would be great, because your expaination lost me and I wouldn't know how to start a test like this.
