Axim X51v has huge delay after powered up

Hi everybody,

I have X30H and recently bought used X51v. I noticed that X51v has a HUGE delay after it powered up, something like 15 sec. After I click Start I should wait 15 secs or so until menu pops up. It drives me nuts. It happens even with power mode to max. Previous owner installed A012 and I literally don't have anything installed on this Axim (except WisBar Lite), as it was for my wife and she is only interested in medical software, but I removed everything trying to verify what causes this initial delay and battery overnight discharge (It was before I discovered ActiveSync bug) Now with fixed ActiveSync issue ( thank to who ever discovered it/ took a time to post) I hoped to have X51 at least as fast as my X30... But I'm not here yet...

Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance

PS. Not sure if it's important but it has 4GB CF in all the time. The card is almost empty..

Is that from a full power off, after a soft reset or after suspend[power off using power button]. It is nothing for the x51 to take 40 to 60 seconds to power on after a full power off or a soft reset. 5 to 15 is good as axim loads today screen plugins, I find it almost instantaneous after wake from suspend!

It's after suspend... and it's definitely closer to 15~20 sec rather to 5.. Wow, axim30H doesn't have this lag at all. Even I have few today's plugins on it and I don't have any single one on 51v. Should I expect it will take longer when I have more installed??:rolling:

So it means, there is nothing I can do about it??
Thanks for quick response though !

I'm running Spb mobile shell and I get immediate startup, I don't know about wisbar, ? but it goes press power button, flash today screen, now screen in Mob shell, not even a secondI do have all of the today screen apps installed to main memory and everything else on CF card. The more I install, doesn't slow startup. Are you at the latest rom and have all the other updates, such as wifi patch, patch for odeysey that fixes notification issues etc?

you might want to look into updates and patches

Check if you have the oddyssey client running. Goto windows/startup folder and delete it, then do a soft reset. There's a lot of posts that I see pointing to a poorly configured oddyssey client as the culprit. If your sure it's not oddyssey, ignore this post.

A12 was installed before I got it. Guess this is latest one. Not sure about other updates.
I use Odyssey to connect my home network. In fact, I was not able to connect to home network without it.. dvmed, how could I check if it's configured properly?
And what is the WIFI patch?

thanks again

hi Hlam,
If it's working then it's configured properly. All I can suggest is that you disable oddyssey and exit whenever you're not using it and before going to standby.

The wifi patch is an update found at Dell website. AFAIK, it just provides a smooth transition between access points. I did not install it because wifi has always worked for me, even without it. Besides I only use one router or access point in every location that I am. What I mean is that I don't roam around when using the internet.

newberry,
A softreset usually will bring back your keyboard icon. Deleting the oddyssey shortcut from your startup folder is safe and will not cause your keyboard icon to disappear. If I may ask, when you got your Axim, did you start from a hard reset or did you just use it as it is?

You can also try memmaid to delete any oddyssey instances from the notification queue.

I had the exact same problem until I used memmaid to clear out duplicate notification queue entries from the Odyssey Access Client. Now all is well!
