Unless this website is being threatened by closure for condoning the idea, it only helps this websites search rankings. Imagine someone googling "WM6 on the x50v" and this website was omitted. Shame when it only helps.
Plus, I condone free speech. :approve:

If someone really wants to get invovled.. why aren't they googling and finding a forum where it can currently be discussed?
I totally agree with you. That's my vote.

Conversely, we know the illegal ROMs are illegal, therefore the issue of this thread is solved... period.
Read the title again. The issue of the thread is not about the legality of the ROMs. The issue of the thread is simply to get the opinion of the members on whether they think that talking about it here is allowed. Unless, of course the opinoin of the majority doesn't mean squat, issue of this thread has been solved even before it even started.
So far talking about it without links is leading the poll.

Consistency works both ways.
Well, until that which you talk about happens, consistency doesn't work both ways. That and their stand regarding the link to the aku 3.5.2 ROM thread for the Ipaq 4700, which undoubtedly is similar in (il)legality as with that of the Axim ROM.

There are various other forums where you could talk about rom issues as well as many other topics, but I for one would want to stay loyal to aximsite.:(

But not follow Aximsite's rules for illegal software?

I dunno, I'm the kinda leader that listens to those who work with me, I covet their advice, I love it when they challenge my positions (not because they're being disloyal, but rather because they make me think of why I do certain things).
Let's say that you, as Boss/Leader, have listened to a lot of this "advice" from your workers on a given topic, and decided to take the projoect in a direction that goes counter to all of their advice (for whatever reason). Are you going to allow them to continue to question the wisdom of your decision as boss/policy maker after you have made your position clear?

That has to be one of the most rediculous things I have ever read. This is a private business and as such had determined what he wants and does not want on his site...
He doesn't want it, and there you go.... This is NOT a democracy. There is no Bill of Rights on this site... and regardless of how many people vote for it, it is not likely that this site will become involved in WAREZ in any fasion.
Moderators are here to moderate, asking them to not do the jobs they were picked to do, because some of you don't like being on the receiving side of the moderation is foolish in the extreme.
Hey lets make the rioters in the street determine what is legal, so the cops don't harass them.
hahahahahahahahahahahaha
(how funny this is when I'm replying after all the political crap I started posting a few years ago... Stop laughing.)

There are other forums available to discuss ROMS so why do it here?
What's the big deal to bookmark another site?
Aximsite has been very good for us Axim users and most of you can agree with me that it's a good source for ideas and discussion.
On the other hand, DELL has already abandoned us and has done away with support for the Axims by way of ROM upgrades, OS upgrades and other general fixes. If you think WM5 is lacking on your X51V--then go ahead and visit sites that cater to ROM upgrades. I don't want Aximsite or Mobility Site to go away because of legal issues with MCSF.
Talking about roms should be ok but linking should not. It's never a crime to simply talk about software but actually providing it is. That’s how I have run my site for the last 12+ years and have yet to have any problems. I'm not asking you to do as I do but to listen to the aximsite community as a whole, They are the ones who have made this site what it is (as is the way with most community driven sites).
I have enjoyed this site for years and it is full of useful information and knowledgeable people. No matter how this ends I'll keep coming here because of the great community that has developed here.
Sorry, this isn't going to happen, because it's the job of the site owner and moderators to moderate.
I totally respect that policy.
Once you click that "Agree" button when registering to become a member, you have to obey the rules... They (the moderators) keep this forum running smoothly with no illegal content...

I think we should respect the owner's wishes and not talk/post the files on the special roms that were released.
If you want to discuss it, go to xda-developers - Xda-developers ! They're more then happy to help you and you don't have all of those "contributors" breathing down your neck.
OK. I have read through all of the arguments on both sides. Some of them raised some interesting and thought provoking points.
I voted no for one simple reason. This house belongs to Chris Leckness. If you come to my house and I ask you not to swear or use profanity, it isn't up to you as my guest to question whether that is appropriate or not. I asked you not to use certain language in my house, and if you continue doing so, then I would be well within my rights to ask you to leave my house.
Similarly, although Aximsite exists within the public domain, it is not public property, not does not it belong to the government. It is, in fact,m private property which has been left open for all of us to use and enjoy. Because it is private property, it is the right of the property owner (Chris) to determine the rules of appropriate discourse on his property. I have been here for a considerable time, and have always found Chris to be fairly reasonable on these kinds of issues.
Without getting in to all of the issues underlying whether it should or should not be a topic for discussion, I would simply say that I think Chris' decision not to allow it is wholly reasonable and well supportable. As such, I do not think there is a basis to question in. That being said, if he turned around tomorrow and said that discussion with no links was the way to go, I think that would be reasonable as well. I do not, however, think there is any reasonable basis for allowing the posting of links to unsupported or kitchen ROMs.
Personally, however, I think such ROMs are dangerous as people who should not be using then frequently do so and the come running back looking for answers when something gets fried.
