Dell Notification Queue Manager, Odyssey client

My Axim X51v over the last weeks had slowed to a crawl.
The X51v would take forever to turn on; and for programs to open.

Reviewing this forum - it seemed the Odyssey client was the culprit.
As suggested by a number of posters, I deleted the Odyssey client from the startup folder.

Now my X51v seems almost as fast as when I first got it.

Questions:
1. I don't need the Odyssey client - but having DELETED it from the startup folder - does it mean that Odyssey is also completely removed from my X51v?

2. Other posters regarding a slow X51/X51v have also suggested to delete "duplicate notification queue entries", using MemMaid.

But I downloaded a similar utility the Dell X51v update site - called the "Dell Notification Queue Manager".

In the "Dell Notification Queue Manager", I have 21 entries - some of these are duplicate and more (up to 4).

Can anyone confirm it is safe to delete these entries? I suppose I should keep 1 copy of each "notification" (entry)?

Thanks for any advice / help.

Deleting the Odyssey shortcut in the startup folder does not delete Odyssey from your Pocket PC. Deleting the shortcut only prevents Odyssey from running continously in the background. Whenever you need to use Odyssey, you will encounter a slight delay opening the application.

Deleting duplicate notifications will not cause any problems for you. In fact, you should delete duplicate notifications because eventually having all these duplication notifications filling up the notification queue will cause your pocket pc to stop sounding alarms.

Actually, my X51v is back to being painfully slow.

I deleted duplicate entries indicated in the "Dell Notification Queue Manager" - these entries were in RED - as opposed to the other entries.

I assumed Dell was pointing duplicate entries that need to be removed, by highlighting them in red type.

But maybe entries in RED type actually mean Do Not Remove?

Does anyone know?

Did I mess thing up by removing the red entries from the Dell Notification Queue ?

NB
-Sorry I do not remember what the red entries were.
-I checked my startup folder, and the Odyssey client did not reinsert itself.
-I installed memmaid - it did point out more duplicate entries to remove - but no change in unbearable slowness of my X51v.

I am not familiar with the Dell utility, but the red entries were probably the ones you needed to delete.

Are you running a task manager on your pocket pc? When the pocket pc starts running slow have you checked to see if anything else was running?

What other shortcuts are in the startup folder?

Here's a free one that might work:

PHM Task Manager : Pocket PC Edition

Install the software, then open it up. An icon will be place in your task tray (lower right hand side of pocket pc). Then when things slow way down, open it up and check out what is running.

Well I actually used MemMaid which I installed to check my running processes.

All the processes are related to Windows Mobile - so they all seem important.

Anyways - my X51v appears to have fixed itself - without me doing anything...

It is fast again - hopefully this will last.

That Notification Queue manager just made it on my list of freeware to eventually be replaced by MemMaid (someday)

I've been wondering this myself. I removed the ones that the Dell program marked as duplicate but there are many more that *appear* to be duplicate as well. How does one know which ones to remove or if it is safe? I read somewhere on Aximsite that one should not remove them all or certain ones, or there will be sync issues. I also have a total of 21, but for some reason the program doesn't think that the ones that appear to be duplicate are, so it doesn't mark them.

The Repllog.exe notifications are the ones that relate to ActiveSync and should not be deleted. There are others Calnot.exe & Clocknot.exe and these should not be deleted either.

You should always backup your pocket pc before you start messing around with the notification queue. Then if you delete something you shouldn't, you can always restore from your backup file.

What about "CALENDAR.EXE"? I have five of those that appear to be exactly the same.

CALENDAR.EXE are notifications related to calendar items. If you view these in SKTOOLs notification option, you'll see the calendar item descriptions. You can delete them with no problem.

I have LOTS of duplicate notifications, but only 2 were in RED.
Does it mean I only need to remove the ones in RED?
