Compact Flash size limits?

It's been nearly a year since the September 2006 announcement by Samsung about 32 and 64GB CompactFlash Type II cards. They've just started MFGing the 64GB SSDs, so the CompactFlash cards can't be far off.

I'm thinking of getting one (to give my PDA a bigger capacity than an iPod), but I want to know if it's compatible or not.

As we know, the Axim X51v doesn't work with SDHC cards (4GB+), but does it work with FAT32 2GB+ CompactFlash cards like this 64GB one?

Ta!

Yes. There's no size limitations on the CompactFlash format, and all Windows devices have always supported FAT32.

The axim will run SDHC under WM6, though it is presumed with performance issues. When I finally get a SDHC card I will be posting comparison tests, however it's been confirmed by more than a few ppl that the X51v and the X50v will run SDHC on WM6

As stated, there is no limit on CF cards, however I think I read somewhere that there's a ceiling of 200gb on storage the axim can access (this was done via a ratoc card and external HD) Though I could be mistaken.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but it was the closest one I could find for my question. I'm running 2003 A05, I was needing to know if it would run a 16G or even then 32g CF card?

I know the 16Gb will work. I assume the 32Gb will also work. :)

Cool thanks for the insight.

I have a Treo 750 and had to upgrade to WM6 before I could use the SDHC cards. I was needing to know if my x50v would have the same issue.

Actually my X51V has a 16gb SDHC card in it now with full access to all 16gb of memory. I also have a 16gb CF card installed with full access to all 16gb of memory from it. You can never have to much memory! :approve:

I guess what I am asking is if the SDHC is compatable with the 2003 A05 rom.

It's my understanding the SDHC cards won't work without the upgrade. :(

I just noticed that the A-Data Speedy 32g is not a SDHC. Sweet.:approve:

I'm confused, you mention CF in your first post.
Is it CF or SDHC that you are talking about?

My bad guys. I was under the impression that any card that were over 8g is size were SDHC.

I am going to assume that the 32g CF cards are not.

CF and SD are two different things.
SD is the slim postage stamp type card, and CF is the thick squarish Card.
CF comes in different types, class I, II, etc
SD is either SD or SDHC.
CF means Compact Flash
SD means Secure Digital
SDHC means Secure Digital High Capacity

Edit: I just noticed in your sig that you have both a CF and an SD
You obviously know the difference so you can ignore my overly simple explanation.
It wasn't meant to be at all patronizing.
Someone else might find it useful.

No harm done:approve:, I actually didn't think it all the way through. I should have figured out what SDHC stood for. :bang:

Now with that said, does the x50v have any known Class issues with the CF cards?

As far as I'm aware, No.
CF seems to be generally compatible.
The only issue is the thickness of the cards, but that doesn't really have any significant effect with the slot size in the Axim.
