Well, if you are usingWM2003SE (which is initially on x50v, unless you upgraded to wm5), you need to have at LEAST 40 mb of free space on main-memory. (so program- and data-storage together.) It's hard to free up that many space, as most programs are getting installed on the device, and not on cards.
so here are my tips:
install most program's on storage-cards or move them manually to cards before you want to play.
install a memory-cleaning-program like memmaid (for example), scan your device and remove all files by pressing the 'clean'-button.
perform a SOFT-Reset of your device before you want to play - this mostly removes up to 5 mb in mempory again.
when you have a total of 40mb+ free, you can start the game.

when you get an error-message concerning free-space ingame, you have probably whe whole packed-big-pak-file on your device. try my trick (which works for all quake-engine-games on PC and other systems - also PocketPC - to improve performance.

PQuake 1 and 2 performance and running TIPS [PocketMatrix >> mobile devices]

WM5 won't work because there's separate executable program RAM and storage ROM - and you can't designate ROM as RAM under WM5, as the two areas are completely different in the new memory model that WM5 and its successor uses. You need to have a physical RAM upgrade to use Pocket Quake III with the x51v, such as that offered by PocketPC Techs - even without any software running (no today plugins, etc), I find that WM5 only allows you to have like 32 MB of so of RAM free at most.

WM6, there's no legal options for Axim users at the moment... but most WM6 devices I've seen don't have 128MB of RAM either. :D
