Not sure if this post should be in Applications of here, but I've decided that here is the best place to start!
Has anyone else had an issue with Pocket Informant taking an age to load up its calendar cache (I am talking of around 20 seconds here!).
I am running Pocket Informant 2007 Rev 2 Build 689.
I turn the machine on, and fire up PI, and it is about 30 seconds before I can look or navigate aroung any calendar information on the device.
I can then scroll forward page by page quite quickly until I reach the end of the calendar cache (set at 72 days by default) ~ 9 weeks, and then if I wish to go further forward, I have to wait another 20 seconds or so before the next cache of 72 days is loaded. The same occurs if I want to go backwards.
Extending the calendar cache size to 360 days surprisingly has very little effect on the load time.
Is this a common issue with other X51V users? or have I got a dodgy device? It is under 1 year old (just) so if it needs to be replaced (if there is any stock left!) I need to do it soon!

Many thanks

Do you have a very large database, well it appears you do! where do you have PI installed? Are you using anything to clean up your device memory?

Yes you are correct, I do have a large database - about 7 MB in Outlook! :o
PI is installed in the device memory,
and I do not use anything to clean up my device memory......do you think that I should???
WEBIS have told me that they think this slow loading is because I have a lot of calendar data sync'ed with my device - I am loathe to sync less as I use it for a historical reference as well as a future diary!
and thanks to Eric12341 letting me know that the default calendar loads within 1 second! I still can not work out whether this is really to do with my data, or a device problem - I guess I could backup all, and then after a hard reset, try loading just the PI and check that I also have the 1 second load! Not keen on doing this though!:(

I am using the same settings for cache
Pretty much default.
and as for load speed
Thank you for this Pedah - how much data do you actually have stored in your calendar? on mine, when I look at the folder properties on my desktop outlook (the only way I know how to gauge the size of my calendar!) it is about 7 MB.
I know that I could hard reset the machine, and then load a small amount of data onto it to check the load speed with minimal data to rule out hardware problems, but the hassle of restoring all of my synchronised data afterwards, and reloading all my applicatiosn is just too daunting!
Graham I just had a look, and it's telling me 3.2 Mb, that's calender contacts tasks notes all together!
edit: just a thought, if you deselect PI as default PIM manager and open the native calender does it take a long time to load?
Thanks Pedah,
Good idea - I tried that and it took around 15 seconds to load - worse than that - it seems to take 15 seconds to change from week to week!! There seems to be something awry with my set up!
I shall maybe have a go at checking this under more controlled conditions (i.e. not at work!!)
Then maybe if it is still happening in this manner, backing up my device, hard resetting it, and then restoring just the PIM data at the weekend if I get the chance!
This could also be a symptom of the combination of software you are running. Also where you have programs installed. I have all my apps except for Mobile shell installed to card, but some combinations of today plugins are memory hungry. Even though I have the apps still installed if I don't run the today plugins alls ok.

I have found this to be one of the biggest factors in everyday performance... I only have 1 today plugin running, pocket breeze and inside PB I have iLauncher running on a custom tab. All but BTTrayCE.lnk, Batti.lnk and WisBar.lnk have been removed from startup folder. I have quite a few programs I install and when I check iLauncher memory meter I have about 26Mo of free ram at startup. (This is with wisbar3, batti and PB running from startup)
I have a large database, ePocrates for med reference. It takes forever to load (30 seconds). If the PPC goes into standy between uses, it takes forever (15 to 30 sec) to come out of standby and be ready to respond to actions. I just thought this was PPC, as I never had such slow response when I used Palm systems. I suspect for the use I have in mind, I need to go back to Palm
