Exclamation Strange battery issue... X51v

I have 2 x51vs, each one has it's own battery. one of these is my backup incase my primary X51v fails. Last night I was using hte backup to test soem software and when the battery got doen to 50% I plugged it into the wall.

The axim lit up and showed "AC power" but did not charge the battery! the light went orange for a few seconds and if the "power" appelt was up it showed "charging" for jsut a few seconds and then went back to normal asif I were using the battery.

Now it gets interesting. I put my other battery into the axim and it worked fine, charged and running. So, I fugure I msut have a bad battery. I place the "bad" battery into my priumary X51v and the orange light glows and it starts charging!

Both use the same OS, though the backup is 99% clean (I installed magic button on it, but that's all) Both batteries will charge fine in the cradle.

Any ideas?

Was the wall unit the Dell or a substitute? The reason I ask is that the symptoms are that the wall unit can handle a pretty full battery, but not a pretty depleted one. The power demands of an Axim are pretty high. Look at this thread for a lengthy discussion. One other possibility is that the little fan shaped power adapter, if that is what you used, may have been slightly cocked and the power pins were not in firm contact. I've had that happen before.

All OEM equipment. didn't use a substitute this time. USed original Dell X51v charger plugged into the travel cable (my "power only" plug broke and I've not had a chance to glue it back together, so this works as a substitute)
