PocketConsole CAB Installation Files???

Hello All

Last week i compiled a very simple "Hello World" console application and attempted to execute it on my Axim X51 but got an error message instead.

Looking around i discovered that this was due to the lack of a Console Device in WM5.0

I found PocketConsole but its installer requires ActiveSync (Which i would like to avoid).

I did a bit of poking around and found a couple of pocketconsole CAB files at handhelds.org but although the device reports that the installation is succesful when i try to run PocketCmd or CMD it fails.

I also installed the Symbolic Tools' PortSDK and attempted to install PocketConsole using the 2 CAB files that are available in the extras directory (according to the symbolic tools website). However, during installation i get the message that the installation was unsuccesful.

I tried emailing SymbolicTools to ask if they have CAB files for PocketConsole but the email address bounced (no it is not a typo, i copied and pasted the address :-) ). I emailed them again 2 days later and the message bounced again (which means that this was not a parodic problem with their server).

Does anyone have or knows where i could find CAB file installers for PocketConsole v1.3?

If you need a console you better give a try to Microsoft one.
Download "Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys" from here:

It has several tools but if you are are only interested on Console use my attached file, it has only the console extracted from previous download.

Read the readme.txt file.

DO NOT EVER FORGET TO SET THIS REGISTRY KEY:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Console\OutputTo = 0
(I think it is also required for other consoles)

Thanks for your reply afarre, this is very helpful, i will try it out and let you know how it went. My problems could be because of the registry setting i was not applying before.
