This thread is great. A person asks for help, and all he gets for hours is thought Nazis telling him that what he did to cause the problem was illegal. Remember when you used to get help around here when your axim was broken? I wonder if the number of active users is plummeting around here. I would guess it is. I'm glad someone actually helped the original poster.

Wow! What an over-reaction! The OP asked for help, poster number 5 gave him the solution. That's pretty quick. You need to get on the decaf...

I'm with him...

Sorry guys, I'm with kmalley on this...I just bought a couple used x50vs, one for myself, one for my wife, and although I have learned a few tips from this board, I am definitely getting a "don't ask any questions" (unless you're ready to feel like an idiot) vibe from this group. The attitude here comes across as arrogant, with lots of folks being confrontational rather than helpful.

Well, it's definitely causing me to look deeper for answers to my simple questions rather than just pop a hand up and ask for help, and maybe that's the intention. The side-effect is that it makes me feel like this is less of a community and more of a clique.

I'll stop now before I jump any deeper into the fire....

Hi Mike,

In my humble opinion you are about one third right. Thankfully there are still many people here who have a vast knowledge base and are prepared to help the likes of you and I, who are not as competent as they, when we have a problem.

Again in my humble opinion there are also many people here who have seen the same questions being asked time and time again and would wish that the OP had at least bothered to search for the answer before posting. Rather than leave the post to be answered by people willing to help they post a quick, snappy and sometimes derogatory answer that leaves the OP thinking that they are seriously stupid for having had the temerity to ask such a pathetic question in the first place.

And lastly, again in my humble opinion, there are many people here who have no interest in helping members who have problems and are only interested in posting as many times as they can every day to move up through the Aximsite / Mobility Site rankings thereby qualifying themselves in their own mind to be a Guru of all they survey.

I have been a member of this forum for nearly a year and have suffered the same frustrations as you when reading post after post where the person answering the OP is extremely rude and openly dismissive, and I'm sorry but I don't think there is ANY excuse for this whatsoever. Some of them actually make me cringe.

I am a member of a few PDA related forums, many of which I first accessed from Aximsite, and I have to say that, again in my humble opinion, compared to those other sites, this one really needs to look at how it is treating people who are, after all, only asking for help because they need it! Or is it maybe that these members think they are above all this helping people nonsense and should actually belong to an exclusive club of people of their own ilk. Who knows? Certainly not me I'm afraid.

Mike, I sincerely hope that you post your questions and receive some positive answers because that is ultimately what a forum like this is for.

Slainte.

Welcome to Aximsite, Mike. In any board with 200,000 members, some will be arrogant, some will be rude. In general, however, most folks here are helpful and most are polite. Unfortunately, the OP hit a relatively raw nerve. The site was recently in an upheaval about the propriety of the bootleg ROM images. Some members feel strongly that the board should ban any and all discussion of them. Some believe the site should openly support them. The owner of the board did a lot of research and got legal opinions before making his call on how the site would handle the situation. That sensitivity is probably what triggered the actions.

Nevertheless, the OP also got a valid answer in 5 posts. That's not bad for a response time.

BTW, I was member number 40, so I've been here since the beginning. ljkelman is right when he says we've seen the same question asked over and over, but usually we're pretty patient to find the links and repeat the data. But everyone's patience can wear thin. Hang in here, you'll find this a pretty friendly place to ask a question. We've made the usual mistakes, found the usual fixes and are happy to share the knowledge.
