X50v freezes during WM5 upgrade

I have had my X50v for nearly 2 years, and updated to WM5 when it first came out, but reverted back to 2k3 due to all the problems with WM5. Now I would like to try the new version. I am MS certified and have a lot of experience, but am having a problem I can't figure out. When I install the A01 or A02 bootloader for either version of WM5, then use either ROM, the update seems to run normally, but them my x50v freezes during the "erasing storage" step at about 10%. I can revert back to 2K3 without any problem, but no matter how I try to go forward to WM5 it freezes at exactly the same point. I have spent at least 30 hours, and tried the SD bootloader with a number of different SD cards, bootloaders, and Activesync methods many times. Is there a program to format the main memory? I know from years of experience that flash memory can get corrupted, and for most chips there is usually a program to clear them. If someone has a fix for this, or can help me figure this out I would be EXTREMELY interested and grateful.

That happened to me too when I tried to upgrade to WM5 A02. Some things to try:
- If you're using the SD bootloader, cradle the Axim (so it has external power) after initiating the ROM update. That fixed the hang for me.
- If you're using Activesync, turn off your firewall.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I have tried this and just about everything else. I can't believe there isn't some type of low level format to solve this.
I love my X50v, and what's incredible is that it's still more powerful than most of the alternatives even after 3 years. I just wish Dell support was worth a crap. They should be ashamed of the first WM5 upgrade.

Same problem for me. I am going to buy an iPaq. I NEVER had a problem with my first ipaq like this Axim is giving me (before it crashed and never booted).

If you have read the posts on site the majority of X50 users
have found it better to stay with 2003ce as WM5 is a pain
on the X50 series.
Most who have tried the upgrade find it buggy.

I used to own an ipaq 4705. Now I have an x51v. If you'rehaving problems with the x50 I WOULD NOT buy an ipaq. I would sell my x50 on ebay and buy an x51v. Best pocket pc i've ever owned. All good things must end I plan on buying an htc advantage x7510 when they are released. That's the only thing I would trade in my x51v for.
