USB device not recognised

When I stick my x50v win2003SE into the cradle it has suddenly started giving an error message as above plus "One of the USB devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned" any ideas?

Try another USB port, best to use a main port not a hub.
Reboot your computer.

Was already using a main port, same one as before. Tried rebooting computer and changing ports before posting. Also tried a hard reset and restored from backup.

You might want to check activesync, you may have to reinstall it. On PC that is. What version are you using? Also check in device manager and see if the axim is registering. check properties of all USB devices listed.

The problem may be in the backup as well.

My best tip at this point would be to delete the partnership in AS on the PC, uninstall/reinstall activesync, with the axim disconnected. On axim open activesync and delete partnerships. Reboot PC, soft reset ax and then reconnect to PC. HTH

If/when I get that error, I have to wiggle my PDA side to side slightly when I place it in the cradle.

I'm wondering if it's a hardware problem with the x50v, I have tried on 3 computers which used to work using 2 cradles and a cable to no avail. It does not work with a hard reset and virgin connection with nothing restored from backup

I have managed to get hold of an x50 which works perfectly on my home PC. I then connected the original x50v and it now synchronises again. I don't understand but am grateful that it does and for everyone's suggestions

I have had this problem off and on for a while now. Usually what has solved it for me was a soft reset of the handheld and a reboot of the PC, though it sounds as if your situation is not as easy. Do you think this could have something to do with a firewall or other security software?

Don't think so as exactly the same thing happened at work as well. It has never happened before and I have been using it for 2 years now. Soft or hard resets and rebooting computer didn't help at all. Neither did uninstalling partnerships and activesync and reinstalling activesync. Only started working after syncing another axim
