my dell x50v only half-syncs with Outlook 2007! WHY?
Dear all...
I finally had the guts to try out Outlook 2007. Added stuff to my calendar and tried syncing it to my dell's calendar. The problem is that only certain things sync successfully through - contacts and birthdays. Other appointments never got through! I'm currently using Vista with Outlook 2007 and used Windows MObile Device Center to sync them. What's wrong??

Office 2007 uses different file extensions, In conversion it gives files a different file extension, that is not compatible with WM5,or more to the point, WM mobile apps of the past
You guys are talking about Office files (word and excel). My understanding of the OP's issue is that appointments, tasks and notes are not synching.
If the OP want to sync Office files too, it is a simple matter to save all Office files in the old format. This is probably what he should do, for the time being any way, since saving files in the old format ensures that other users will be able to open the files and the OP will be able to use the files on a different machine that may not be running Office 2007.

I don't know if this will help or not, but you could try running the SCANPST utility on your Outlook data:
SCANPST.EXE IS IN THE \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office 12 subdirectory
Outlook.pst file is in C:\Documents and Settings\(your name)\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst
Close Outlook
Select SCANPST.exe
This will bring up a dialogue box
Input the entire path and pst file name in the dialogue box.
Press the Start button
You may need to run SCANPST a few times to allow the utility to work through all the issues in your PST file.

What don't you understand? SCANPST is a utility that is already installed on your computer that will evaluate and fix potential problems with your Outlook.PST file. The Outlook.PST file is where all your appointments, contacts, and tasks are stored.

Get pocket informant and you will be very happy with how it sync's all the info.
Check it out here.btw it is on sale for $24 dollars right now
Pocket Informant vastly improves upon the functionality of Pocket Outlook to match and exceed what's available even with the desktop Outlook while keeping complete and uncompromising compatibility with Outlook. 5 Calendar Views, Notes, Tasks, Contacts, Journal, and so much more with an awesom to use interface.
Installing a third party application to handle contacts, appointments and tasks will not address this user's syncing problem. Third party applications simply provide a different user interface for the data that gets synced to the pocket pc, but the underlying data is the same.

I'm going to have to go see if this helped me with my issues (2003), but before i lose this thread and get distracted, I want to say thank you. It took some re-reading of this over and over to get there, but I learned YET ANOTHER thing my computer will do that I never knew. These things may be "DUH'S" to you MVP's, but man, I'm impressed. Thank you for the lesson.
Can i ask here, another question I also posted on your blog? Is it advisable to not install Outlook 2007 without going for the whole office suite and if you still use XP? I'm about to load the OUTLOOK Trial, but if it doesn't suit me or I want to go back, I want to be able to.
I love these forums.....
I don't think you need to install the whole suite of Office 2007 and your pocket pc should sync with no problems to Outlook 2007. Iinstalling Office 2007 to my computer did not disrupt my ActiveSync connection at all. I had heard that I needed to upgrade AS to 4.5, but that was wrong information. I continued syncing with AS 4.2 without a blip.
Outlook 2007 actually has some nice features and because it does not use the new ribbon user interface there really wasn't much of a learning curve to overcome.
Go ahead and upgrade Outlook. I think it will be easy and you'll probably enjoy the new features.

Thanx for the speedy reply. I'm just sitting here reading or trying to find out if i need to backup everything in Outlook first. Everyone always preaches backup, and while i do my whole computer every week, i've never tried to pick out specific folders from Outlook. Since you didn't mention that---and i haven't read of anyone losing all their stuff while doing this---i guess that's a non issue, as well. Thanx again (and by the way, i found your blog and posts here so useful, your blog is now in my rss reader).
