What can I do with an X50v that I no longer use? Any mods or ingenious uses?

So I now use an OQO and my Dell Axim X50v sits on its cradle on a daily basis. Sure I could sell it (though I probably would not get much). I was wondering if anyone modified their Dell Axim X50v for something ingenious other than a PDA. Maybe a photo frame or a touch screen interface for something cool. Whatever. There has to be some use for this thing other than putting it up on eBay.

Maybe there are times when the OQO stays home while you go out? In those instances, the axim could serve as a music player or some other function.

In the past, I have used the axim to keep a record of all daily expenses. After monitoring the purchases over a period of time, I thought about creating a database detailing the cost per unit of things purchased.

Home automation controller? Home media controller?

The Ax makes for a lousy picture frame as the viewing angle is too narrow in portrait mode, and there is NO viewing angle in landscape.

Bluetooth media player controller? Get a USB dongle for your pc and pair the x50 with it. Use a plugin for winamp to allow bluetooth controlling, and set up the other half on your x50. Hey presto, a music remote!!!

I have used it with a GlobalSat bluetooth GPS. However, the same iGuidance software package came with a Windows version and I use the same bluetooth GPS and same software with the OQO when traveling.

Yeah. I guess that is the fate of the Axim. It did everything pretty well for what it did but it did not do anything exceptionally well. Maybe I'll put it up for sale at Aximsite.

As far as my OQO is concerned, it is probably the best single piece of technology I have ever owned. I use it for everything that I use my desktop to do, plus GPS while traveling, plus watching movies on the plane, plus reading the news on the web, giving presentations with a projector and bluetooth keyboard. I have even set up a private WIFI Hotspot by just tooling around with the Vista settings. The list goes on.

I only wish there were a mid-sized battery between the standard and double capacity. I think that would be a perfect form versus function compromise. The double is a little too heavy, I think.

I'd second the GPS suggestion. One problem I have with using primary PDA as GPS is the need to disconnect... reconnect... disconnect... reconnect... I would just leave both Ax and GPS receiver constantly hooked up and powered on, ready to jump in and drive.

Also, I would make it a car music player, with a 4gb card you can fit plenty of MP3 or OGG files. The only problem would be finding the best way to connect into car's audio system.

My spare ax is located in its cradle beside my bed where I've installed two PC loudspeakers with a subwoofer under the bed.

Via wifi I can listen to my favorite musik, radio stations and podcasts.

BTW: It shows the time in full screen and can wake me up (ALC 2007 lite)
