Got a bit of an interesting dilemma that I hope one of you fine intelligent folks can help me solve...
I use a shared PC at work. No problem, you might think. However, it is.
I installed ActiveSync on it last week, and had absolutely no issues using it etc etc. However, that's where the standard operation fails.
Other users log on, Activesync goes mental. It tries to reconfigure itself, install itself, open COM ports that don't exist, bitch at the others etc etc. Basically, the damned thing won't shut up.
I've done a lot of googling, and found some kill scripts, but the problem is that as soon as you fire up WMP11, it restores all the ActiveSync stuff again, and the issues reappear. Some of my colleagues love WMP11, as although they aren't meant to watch films at work, we all do anyway!
Anyone know how I could either stop this very bad behaviour (and no, telling ActiveSync to go stand in the corner, sending it to bed without any supper, or giving it a smacked behind don't work!!!), or know a replacement for ActiveSync that still allows synchronisation with Exchange and the local PC all at once, I'd be EXTREMELY grateful if you could enlighten me!!!
There is no alternative. A/S, for all it's problems, is the core communications between the PC and PPC. If you are running windows XP, or 2K, you might try installing A/S again on the PC, but just for YOU, not for all users (assuming the others each have their own login).
I'd try uninstalling and reinstalling. I have ActiveSync installed on 2 multi-user computers and it doesn't say or do a thing to the other users. In fact, the program doesn't do anything to me until I plug in my Axim and my coworker never knew I installed it.
What type of messages are you getting specifically?

the entry is called wsecomm.exe, or something like that. It's not called ActiveSync.exe
That way, it only starts when YOU want it to run, and not simply everytime some guy sits down at the shared computer.
Not so. As soon as anyone fires up windows media player, it automatically recreates all the registry entries for EVERYONE. I've tried putting nuke scripts in the startup to nuke those registry entries and kill both the processes every time anyone (except me) logs in, but once again, as per Micro$hite's standard procedure, it invades everything and reloads.

I'm seeing "failed to open COM port" for any other user on the pc as soon as it loads, and then AS trying to reconfigure itself. There's no option to install specifically for myself, I only get the choice to install for all users (by which I mean that it doesn't prompt me at all).
