I have the 420mhz Axim, and I can't seem to get this to work. When I press the button combination, I see "SD Image Update A01" at the top, and a window saying that the update failed. I was trying to downgrade from WM5 A01 down to WM2003 A05. Can anybody help me, please?

For a very short moment when running the SD loader, I see "SD Read Fail: Please Check Your SD." I don't think this is normal. It's a FAT32 SD card, not MMC...

Did you format the SD card before copying the image to the card. The image loader really wants to be the only think on the card. If that still doesn't work, try another card.

Are you using this image to go from WM5 to WM2003?
Dell WM5 to WM2003 Downgrade?

I did use that file, and the card was formatted. However, my troubles seem to have come to an end; this morning, my Axim randomly booted up perfectly, and now works fine in WM5. My WiFi card doesn't work in WM5, and I'm too paranoid to downgrade again, so I'm without Internet, but at least I have some more eye candy.

My problem is resolved enough, I suppose. I'm just really happy that I don't have a paperweight.

Notice at the bottom of the SD Loader screen (after a while) it says "Real Checksum Value" and "Checksum Value" (or something like that). What you have to do is open the crc file in notepad (or some other text editor) and replace what is there what is after the "0x" in "Real Checksum Value". Or you could get the crc value by running the nb0 file through the crc calculator, found at Download CRC_calc.rar, upload your files and earn money.

Help. Sorry but I don't know what I'm doing. I somehow bricked my X50V (I wasn't upgrading the ROM or anything like that but I have screwed-up everything when I was installing and uninstalling a program). I tried hard reset, soft reset...nothing works. Now the screen keeps popping up with a message that says memory error etc. I'm not sure which set of instructions from the 1st page to use to restore my X50V.

My X50V is WM5 with A02.

Any instructions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I was running WM2003 SE and upgraded to MW5 A01. This worked ok for a short while then stopped. The upgrade worked fine but then one day my X50 became stuck on the load screen with the progress bar stopping at about 80%. After this happened I read that upgrading to WM5 is not recommended. I have dowloaded all the roms mentioned in this post but none of them work. I would like to go back to WM2003 SE and I assume I require the WM5 bootloader and the WM2003 SE rom? Do you have this combination?

Thanks for the instructions. I was able to flash back to WM5 A01 for my x50v. I found the proper files from the other thread on SD Loader flashing. Everything seems to be working again. The tricky part for me was the POWER+WIRELESS and tap of soft rest. It was very awkward for my fingers.

so i guess if it doesnt respond to any button interaction to boot the SD loader, then its completely bricked? Warranty time it is then :).

Hi. Just got an Axim X50. I upgraded the rom to A05 on PPC 2003 fine. After I updated to WM5 A01, it did some strange stuff. It worked after a reboot, but after I did the screen alignment and stuff it died again. Hard resetting shows the Dell logo and the progress bar going about a quarter of the way across. I tried the rom link to recover A01 on here but the SD loader screen wouldn't come up.

Is there anything else I can try? If there are files involved please try to find somewhere that doesn't require image verification since I'm visually impaired and have a hard time with them.

Thanks.

Update: I got into the SD loader and got the 2003 A05 image installed again, image update was successful and the bootloader was loaded properly. But it's doing the same thing, freezing at Dell. Hard reset, soft reset, just keeps locking up. I went through the diagnostics suspecting a memory problem but everything passed. What am I doing wrong? How should I fix this beautiful little thing?

Still bricked

Thanks for that great post!
I did everything like indicated: at the end, I got this message: "Image updated successfully. Press Power and Reset to hard reset" (or soething like this).
But when I do power+reset, I got a bricked PDA again... :rolling:
So, I tried to update again the ROM many times: still the same problem:
Anyone as any ideas?
Cheers,
Tomka.
