I believe that WM5 A02 ROM would do if your re-flash it: Download X50_mid_WM5_A02.rar, upload your files and earn money..

I assume you know how to flash, I'll leave that up to you.

Hi,

I got an old Axim from a friend, but it is installed with the French OS.

I believe it is an X50(low) as these are the specs:
Intel PXA270 - 416 MHz
Ram: 64Mb
Rom: 64Mb
Bluetooth, no Wifi

Can I use the steps in the first post of this thread to reflash the device to an English WM2003 version? It'll be obvious that I'm totally n00b at this!

Additionally, does the WM5 Rom also include the .Net CF v2.0?

Is the French "OS" WM5 or WM2003?

The current OS is 2003SE, A00, French

I already tried the official Dell Updates, but these always return with an error stating that it can not restore the image (WM2003SE A05 ENG) because the language is different.

I have everything ready and prepared: SD card, FAT 32, with the AximX50_WM2k3_A05_EN files on it. I just want to make sure I can reflash the device with this ROM and not end up with a 'brick' (love the term:) )

I'm planning on using it for a dedicated application, that I'm writing myself, using the .Net Compact Framework 2.0. I believe WM5 has the .Net CF already in the ROM, so I would then try to upgrade the device to WM5. But I believe I'll need a WM5 bootloader for that, and Dell ain't selling/shipping the upgrade CD any more, so I think it would be fair to ask the community to help we with that (i.e. it being legal for a kind person to share it with the community)

I'm trying to wade through all the threads and information available already here on this site, but I'm not sure I have all the steps and files yet. I must say that I'm impressed and gratefull with what this community has already done.

Hehe, of all the times I have flashed and re-flashed, I cannot give you a definite answer. I believe it would work but there is always a chance you might brick it. It's a risk you are going to have to take.

Hmm, tried to flash it, but all I get is a hard reset.

I did the following:
1) Copied the rom files onto a 128MB FAT32 formatted SD card
2) Placed the card in the Axim
3) Pressed the Power-wireless-reset combo (harder than ctrl-alt-del)
4) I get a yellow warning triangle with the message:

To clear all data in the memory, press [contacts button image].
To cancel this operation, press [messages button image].

5) Pressed the contacts button
The device then does a normal hard-reset

So I do not get an SD Card loader screen.
I did this several times, waiting even several minutes in between step 4 and 5, or after step 5. But each time, it goes through the normal hard-reset.

For a second I was even thinking that the WM5 bootloader would already be on the device, so I added the X50_low_WM5_A01 files to the SD card. But that did not result into anything new. Same behaviour as above.

Press power and wireless, then press reset and release while still holding power and wireless, once the bootloader appears release power and wireless.

You guys rock! Got the WM2003 A05 EN image up and running.

So how do I now put WM5 on it, I need the WM5 bootloader, right? And then I can use the WM50_K_A01_X50_WM5_EN.nb0 image? Can anyone confirm that the .net cf is also part of the ROM? I know you can get it as a seperate distributable, but that will take up more of the RAM memory when loading it.

First part was easy, after hard reset - wifi-power - reset - my axim is dead

If you are able to access the bootloader then you should read the first post in this thread.
If you can't access the bootloader anymore then I think you have a major problem.
I'm assuming you have an x50.

If power+wifi+reset doesn't work then I believe you own a paper weight.
I may be wrong, but there are many warning about flashing the wrong files causing a brick.

Make sure you hold the Power and Wifi buttons and then press and release the reset button while still holding the other 2 buttons.

You can also try Diagnostic mode.
Same procedure except Power and Record button and then Reset.

If neither of those bring it to life, you may be out of luck.
