Axim outside cradle is using power because when I put him back to the cradle its charging.
And Ive notice that in some combination of files in sd card power light is giving a short blink, when I press reset (holding power and wifi or rec). But I cant start a bootloader. I have no idea witch bootloader start from sd card.
Ok, in order to upgrade to WM6.1 you need to upgrade to WM5 A01 then WM5 A02 first. Trying to go directly from WM2003 SE to WM6.1 might render your system unusable.

I tried upgrading to WM5 from 2003, resulting in a "bricked" X50V. I read all the reflash options. How am I supposed to know if the bootloader has been flashed successfully or not. Is there supposed to be any sort of activity on the screen when pushing wif+power+reset? Thanks for the help?
I hope someone can point me in the right direction here.
I have an AXIM x50v that I got handed down to me because the use couldn't get it working. I got no software with it and the user has no idea what happened so I basically have no knowledge of its history.
When I first tried to boot it up, the progress bar on the Dell splash screen froze about 30% through. I tried to perform an SD flash and it says A01 at the top of the screen so I tried that flash. It froze about 30% through the ERASING STORAGE part. I did go through the whole diagnostic test and everything passed. I also tried the WM2K3 flash but it said I was uring the wrong file and wouldn't let me proceed as well as using the WM2K3 files renamed to the A01 file names (saw it on another forum).
Any help/ideas are greatly welcomed and appreciated as I'm completely stumped.
You should first try a Hard Reset instead of a bootloader flash. If it doesn't work, please tell us.

I had already tried a Hard Reset a few times before going to the SD flash with no luck. After I posted my other posting, I also tried a A02 flash and it got further along than any of the other attempts but still left me with a message saying that a memory error was detected and to press the Calendar button to correct the error and if it didn't boot to try a hard reset. Another Hard Reset gave the typical screen to press the Calendar button to continue or the email button to cancel. Upon pressing the Calendar button, the screen went black and wouldn't turn on (again).
I just don't get it. If the diagnostic tool says everything is ok, why should there be a memory error?
Memory error generally means that the RAM inside the Axim has been damaged in some way. It was probably dropped from a high height by a previous owner. Flashing usually doesn't fix the RAM problem.
You have two options:
Open up the Axim and check if there are visible damages (bent pins, etc...) in the RAM.
Sent it to a company like PPCTech and they will gladly fix it for you, for a hefty fee, of course.

Hi, all, I'm guess I'm joining the party quite late but I have recently purchased a 2nd hand X50 which has Windows Mobile 2003 A05. I would like to upgrade to WM5 but I'm having issues!
I have tried to find the boot loader on the Dell website for WM5 A01 but it doesn't appeat to be available. Do any of you good folks out there have a copy I can get hold of please? I have the rar file X50_mid_WM5_A01 but I can't get it to load.
Thanks in advance, and top site by the way, TONS of information for us noobs!!
Hiya Yarga, Dell does not give out the upgrade to WM5 "for free."
What you need is the upgrade CD from WM2003 to WM5 by Dell. Since the Axims have been discontinued, the CDs are not made anymore. A few of us (Including me, I lost the CD but I will be getting a new copy soon) still have the upgrade CD. I do NOT believe it is circulating around on the Internet.
Once I get my copy, I will probably upload it. Sure, if Dell wants to sue me for some reason, they go right ahead. They won't win though.
You will have to wait a week for the upload unfortunately. If you want, you can keep pestering me via PM so I will remember to upload it. Hehe, I usually don't remember these things. So it's your job to remind me.

Here at aximsite, you can't post a link to the upgrade cd iso in a normal post. However, you are free to post the link to the upgrade cd iso in as many pms as you want (I already asked if I can just post a link to the upgrade cd iso somewhere on my X50 series flashing sticky and I got denied except for private message).

Steven, I got my X50 to the point where I loaded WM5 A02 B and then K, but the Axim is not rebooting. It gets stuck at about 80% (on the reboot screen with the /dell logo). If I do a hard reboot, I can see the 2 files (WM50_B_A02_X50_WM_ENG.nb0 and WM50_K_A02_X50_WM_ENG.nb0) from the SD card, with the top menu "SD Image Update A02". No matter what I press (Power + reset or Wireless + Power + reset) I get the reboot screen which gets frozen close to the end. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone have the flash package for WM2003, X50v? I bricked my X50v because I tried to use the files posted at the beginning of this thread (not realizing they're for X50, not X50v).
UrbanNomad,
Are you talking about the WM2003 A05 ROM or the upgrade CD from WM2003 A05 to WM5 A01?
