Instruction Video to Take Apart Your Axim X50 PDA

Last night, I decided use a camcorder to film myself taking apart an Axim X50 V PDA. In the video, I take the Ax (in working order) apart, then put it back together and boot it up and continue using it.

The result is a 30 minute mpeg video with mpeg-2 audio encoded. Note that the size is 160 MB, but it streams nicely over any decent connection.

Here is the link on PublicFTP (to view or download to your local hard drive):

http://publicftp.com/home/bernard/ta...mx50-apart.mpg

Here is the google video link:
http://video.google.com/googleplayer...84601489&hl=en

I don't mind ammending the video, even making another one, if someone wants instructions on something else.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think.
Bernard.

This is great stuff bigbop! I've always been afraid to take apart my Axim, but this video makes it look easy. By the way, have you thought about submitting this to The World's Biggest Show & Tell - art, craft, diy, food, games, home, life, offbeat, ride, tech or YouTube?

I'm slow with things like youtube.

The instructables sounds pretty cool.

I want to see what people think of the quality, and if I need to address any part of the process in more detail.

I really tried to narrate alot to provide additional info throughout the process.

Thanks for sharing, bernardm! I've only had a chance to watch a bit of it, but I know it will come in handy as my X50v is getting on in years. :approve:

So would taking an x51v apart be pretty much the same? If so, I'll archive the video as well in case I need it someday.

Hi srvctec.

The X50v and X51v are taken apart in the same manner.

You would notice that the backup battery assembly looks different, but the other mechanics are basically the same.

I hope the video helps you - I just wish it were smaller in size. I'm not too good at video.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Aximsiteactivesyncicon Axim x50v will not turn on

I have a Dell x50v and it will not power on. I left it in my car for a few days and when I got it out it would not turn on. At first, I thought the battery was dead, so I charged it. The light turns green when the unit is fully charged but it still will not cut on. Also bought another battery and charged it off the unit by itself. No fix. Does anyone know what could be wrong? I am lost without it.

Looks good. I will try to upload it to a video hosting (youtube type) site here soon. Youtube has a 10min limit, so ill find another site that doesnt have the limit. I think maybe google video or something.

I wonder, could someone make a video on how to use the SD Loader to flash their axim. I think that some people could use it. As for this video and youtube, I have seen videos on there bigger than 10 min., but those videos are few. I wonder, could one use this video to get to their X50(mid)'s ram and replace it with a bigger amount of ram?

I uploaded it to google video for all to view instantly without the 162mb download.

Don't worry bernardm, i mention your name in the description.
Heres the link: http://video.google.com/googleplayer...84601489&hl=en

Enjoy watching. Just dont make the mistake of downloading it to your x50 and watching it while your taking the same axim apart.
"Okay i take the battery out and now what? Its just a blank screen. What do i do?" LOL!
