I've been using my X51v for a while now and noticed some really weird things. I'm trying to change the settings so that the screen dims after 1 minute. After I set it and exit, turn off the device with the power button (in the settings menu the power button is set to dim/light the display), the device will dim the screen in probably less than 15 seconds. No matter how many times I change it I get the same result.
Another problem is when I try to start a program it looks like it launches and then immediately exits itself. Then I have to click it again to start it. I don't understand what the problem is since it just started happening by itself.
Anyone know what I could do? I know a hard reset is usually the quick fix, but any chance this has happened to anyone before and it's just a setting I have to fix? Any help would be appreciated. THANKS. :)
I have experienced you second problem (program exits) when I didn't have as much memory available that the program needed. I would check the amount of memory available and then check to see what is running to determine how to free up memory.
The first problem I have only solved with a hard reset. I am not sure what has caused this but it has happened a couple times. I have tried registry hacks and they have only been a temporary fix. It is a known problem so if you do a search you will come up with more on the issue. The second problem has usually been a memory shortage for me too. What I have also noticed is that it will happen with some programs that have been loaded on the storage card if they were running after turning off to sleep mode. After wake up some programs will then exit (crash) and if I try to restart them they will start to load and then crash. The fix was to load those programs on to main memory (TextMaker, Adobe Reader, MobiPocket, PhatPad, come to mind).
I think I understand the problem somewhat, but dunno the solution. The RAM is usually never low (on start up I have about 27.6) and the programs that I try to use (for example SPB Brain Evolution) don't require high amounts of memory. The program will appear to start then exit, but it's never that it will not start. Usually clicking on the program again will start it right up again and either freeze or work fine. I've found out that WHEN it freezes or does the "open then exits" thing and I either leave it alone or reset then it messes up the Power Settings so that they change to default. I can't understand the memory issue since I'm not using that many programs on start up anyways (right now I'm using Pocket Plus, but when I un-installed it and thought it was the problem the problems kept happening). At most I have SPB Time plug in and PocketWeather plug it. It's not a lot, but I still get problems. Would I still need a hard reset?
I would suggest to do a hard reset but say no when asked to clear all the data. I used this technique several times and it worked for me. Also with all the settings done on your Axim doing a full backup -> hard rest -> restore put the Axim the way it was and you kinda restart fresh without having to reload everything.
Cheers,
Frenchy

I have had this same problem...I'll change the backlight settings, and a little while later, its changed back. Grr. In any case, I'd be willing to do a hard reset with backup (as described by Frenchy above), but its been a while since I hard reset, and I currently don't have my dock with me (using BT sync instead at the moment). I would greatly appreciate some elaboration on the steps to backup, hard reset, and restore...esp since the last time I hard reset it took me forever to reload all my software and such back to the way I like it.
same here, no conflict. I'll try the backup and hard reset then. Just sucks that this happens in the most inconvenient times. Only thing is doesn't the restore actually restore everything as it was before?
I actually had both of these problems. Just backup, and hard reset. It fixes everything. Dunno why/how this fixes it, it just does...

What is your favorite way to back-up and then restore post-hard reset? I've had to reload everything by hand, and let me tell you, I don't feel like doing that again. Plus I don't have the time to do that either...

There is a software called Sprite Backup. It is not free, but I would suggest that you buy it. It has never failed on me. And what is great is that it can restore your PDA even if there was a ROM update.
Their both great software, it just depends on your liking, and your budget.
