Is there a program that adjusts the backlight?

Hi.

I was wondering if you guys know of a program that adjusts the backlight. I use my Axim for GPS navigation, and the backlight brightness is sometimes blinding even when the GPS software is using night mode. The software I use does have a setting to dim the backlight when in night mode, but it does not work for the Axim for some reason. It did work when I used an old iPaq however. (I was told by the software company that this feature would not work with the Axim)

I have tried today warrior and powercheck, but the slider is too small to use while driving - well it is too small for me to use comfortably while driving. Is there anything out there I can use - preferably free?

You may be able to do something using a macro recorder and assign the macro to one of your buttons.

In case furthur explanation is needed, a macro recorder will allow you to record a sequence of commands and then execute them as a "program". So if you assign a macro you created that dims the backlight through settings to the calander button, you will be able to perform this multi-tap process with the push of one button.

I agree, that is probably one of the best ways you can do it. Of course, it does mean you will have to watch your Axim as it goes through the steps.

I remember a while ago in one of the registry topics there was a registry entry you can chanhe that enables you to adjust the backlight. i used to use it for reading at night. it has something to do with the contrast folder in the registry.

my first thought is something like a plastic cover of a shaded color that could be (don't laugh) be taped to the top of the axim, and you could flip it down to cover the screen.

Astronomers like 'red' flashlights since our pupils adjust between red and dark well.

it's not luxurious, but it might work for your car, and you wouldn't have to touch the unit to adjust the screen.

Good idea bernardm! I have seen this in use with a laptop in Chamberlin Observatory in Denver CO. Really helps keep that blinding white light to a minimum. Good job thinking outside the box, I would never have thought of that.
