Installing WM5.0 from Vista
Hi Folks,

I need some help. I have an Axim x50v which has windows mobile 3.0. I want to upgrade to WM5.0. My Operating system on PC is Vista and I use Windows Mobile Device Center to sync. I already have the upgrade software from Dell but my problem is that whenever I run the exe Axim shows me something like "Waiting for ROM Update...." and on the Vista operating system I get error "ROM UPDATE Utility MFC application has stopped working" It's driving me nuts.

I don't think the update is compatible with Vista, and you could potentially brick your Pocket PC by attempting to do so. You need to install it from an XP machine.

It doesn`t brick it because it never gets that far. Happened to me I just used my Laptop with Windows 2000.

I have read threads from other users who bricked their devices trying to install updates from a Vista machine, but maybe those were Axims......
